Romo could play again this year

J. Kitna, assuming his broken collarbone heals 100 percent, could return to the field this year (Getty). Posted by Josh Katzowitz

You could certainly make the argument that, no matter the health of Tony Romo, he absolutely should not take another snap for Dallas this season. After all, the Cowboys aren’t remotely close to being a playoff team, and there’s not much sense in playing the franchise quarterback in games that are essentially meaningless.

But that’s not the way interim coach Jason Garrett is thinking. Romo took some throws during Dallas’ practice Monday, and if Romo – who’s been out since Oct. 25 with a broken collarbone – is healthy, Garrett plans to play him.

“We're going to make this a medical decision for him," Garrett told reporters, via the Houston Chronicle. "We just have got to see how he responds. It's a serious injury for anybody, but particularly if you're trying to play quarterback in the NFL. You've got to make sure that thing is healed up."

Despite the fact backup Jon Kitna is playing well in Romo’s place, Garrett sounds like he wants Romo on the field. That gives the Cowboys a better chance to win, which would give Garrett a better chance to permanently take the interim tag off his title.

Other than that, I’m not sure why you’d play Romo in, say, Week 16 in a game that means absolutely nothing to the Cowboys.

Romo could play again this year

I dont agree starting Romo. Its a lost season. Keep Romo sidelined and healthy to comeback strong next year. He has plenty of time in offseason to mold with his WR's. Really just Dez Bryant. He knows Austin and Witten like the back of his hand and did well with Williams early this season. His body has a year of rest. It would be a shame to bring him back and re-injure himself and make an avoidable situation worse.

I hope he plays in week 17 so the Eagles get a shot at re-breaking that collarbone.

Romo could play again this year

I think Romo should play this year IF and ONLY IF he is 100%. That way he can have some game experience with the WR's and he doesnt lose his touch. Practice makes perfect. The only thing I would do is keep him out of the last game of the season or treat it like a preseason game where he is out for a few series before kitna takes over and at least he can remain in game shape.
We need to focus on O-line and Safety this draft and at least with a high pick we can solve one of those large holes.
Not matter how much they loose or how poorly they play they are still my cowboys !

Romo could play again this year

As a lifelong Cowboys fan I would like Garrett our coach no matter what.  He was the best backup quarterback you could ask for; and I will be honest that hadn't convinced me initially.  I still wanted Bill Cowher or another big name coach.  Recently however; I have become a big fan of Jason Garrett again.  He speaks with a confidence we can only hope is reproduced in the locker room.  He grew up in a football family with close Dallas ties and I believe he is one of the only people Jerry would trust to have the majority of control.  Has he answered a question to the media incorrectly at this point.  Clearly he understands the game beyond the field and is willing to play it.  Lose the rest of them and have a brain enough to add O lineman and safeties that don't suck and I will still be a fan.  Skipping out on Antrell Rolle and getting rid of Flozell Adams and then having both of those particular groups suffer didn't help Jerry's credibility as a GM in my book.  Getting sick of watching them lose just like the Danny White/Steve Pelluer days!  Shape up or I am a Jets fan after 35 years
