Favre on returning in 2011: 'I'm done, I'm done'

Brett Favre's retired once or twice in his career. This year really did seem like his last though, especially with the off-field issues he's dealt with.

So when he said earlier this year that he was calling it quits after 2010, it seemed believable. Then Brad Childress got canned, Leslie Frazier took over and, well, you just never know, right? Fortunately, someone asked him on Wednesday if he was thinking about returning and Favre reiterated that he was not.

"I'm done, I'm done," said Favre, via the Minnesota Star-Tribune.

Also fortunate: someone asked him the obvious follow-up of "Really? We should really believe you this time?"

"I remember the same question, the first part of the year, everyone said, 'Well, ...' I said, 'Time will tell,' but like I said, I'm done. I'd love to, as I said when I came back I'm here to win a Super Bowl, we had big expecations, it hasn't gone the way we hoped up to this point, but again, my career speaks for itself. I think it's been a great career. I don't know how the remaining games will unfold but that's it."

As always, this is where we give you the "believe it when you see it" line -- until Favre actually files retirement papers with the NFL, there's really zero reason to believe that he won't come back, regardless of the struggles he's gone through this season.

And remember, Minnesota is one of the teams on elimination watch this weekend (Joe Ferreira, our resident playoff scenario expert, told me on Wednesday their best option was "to pray"), so Favre's season could be as finished as soon as Sunday. That doesn't rule out a Frazier-inspired run by the Vikings to close out the season, which would only add fuel to the speculation fire on Favre's future.

first of all i like bret but he should have retired last season or even the year before,i feel bad for adrian peterson he is the one getting caught in the middle off all this uncertainty and every year that goes by  this huge talent goes to waist so vikings front office should put their foot down a get a reliable QB and let Bret Farv go on to the hall of fame.

You're right Favre. Your career does speak for itself.  You selfishly put yourself ahead of your teammates for years.  You are the All time leader in INT's thrown because when the game was on the line, you were the one willing to make a bad pass, letting your ego get ahead of yourself and handing the game to the other team.  I think one of the anchors of CBS said it best when he said Favre is capable of giving a team a game.  I think that is pretty much what your career says Favre.  Despite what you'd like to think, it'll be your ego, your selfishness and your arrogance that everyone remembers most.  Congrats on being the All time leader in INT's, because when Manning is done, he'll own the TD record, and that my friend is all you'll be left with.  Please feel free to come back again in 2011, I'd love to see another 25 picks to add to that total, try to force that pass in there one more time and limp off the field like it was your ankle that caused the bad pass
