The Cardinals have placed rookie QB Max Hall on the IR list with a dislocated shoulder, and rookie John Skelton – who coach Ken Whisenhunt basically has said is not ready to play NFL football – likely will get the start, according to the Arizona Republic.

And Skelton sounds pretty pleased about the opportunity.

“I'm pretty excited about it,” he told the paper. “I've been preparing for it for a while now. It's unfortunate having two guys (Derek Anderson with a concussion and Hall) go down in front of me, but at the same time, it's an opportunity.”

If you’ve never heard of Skelton, you’re not alone. He played his college ball at Fordham, and until the fourth quarter last week, he hadn’t stepped foot on the field. And now, what do you know, he’s an NFL starting quarterback.

“I kind of anticipated it coming, but it's nice having your name called and have something happen that you always waited for, and to have it come true,” he said.

This guy is actually a beast of a player.  I remember at the combine, he was just a monster and had a stellar career at Fordham.  Wishing him the best of luck...imagine one year you are playing college ball in the Bronx(Fordham) N.Y. and the next, you are starting a game in the NFL!  Just incredible!

Daunte Culpepper must be pitching a fit about now since the Cardinals signed his UFL backup!

I went to Fordham and am happy to see John Skelton get a shot on the field.

I heard it's John Skelton vs. Richard Bartel this week for the starting QB job against the Broncos. Bartel, who they just signed today from the UFL was a former 3rd Stringer for the Redskins, then joined the Sacramento Mountain Lions in the United Football League. Should be interesting to see who gets the staring job. My bet is that it'll go to John Skelton since he's been there all year. Man, I feel sorry for Larry Fitzgerald owners in Fantasy.....

YOu can say Leinhart got his chance, you can say no he didn't, both are kind of true.  None of the previous comments were as spot on as the "lost puppy" comment.
What is certain is in the weak NFC WEST Matt leinhart mave have made the Cardinals a playoff team.  Actually probably not they are pretty bad.  of course it is easy to be pretty bad when you throw in the towl.  Maybe with Matt they'd still be holding that towel.  One thing for certain is Cardinals are bad, nothing short of Kurt Warner restarting his career could have helped them this year.

Matt Leinart had three chances to become an NFL starting quarterback

- He was given the job his rookie year
- He was declared the starter over Kurt Warner when the Cardinals picked up the done Warner from the Giants
- He was declared the starter over Derek Anderson at the beginning of this year

He failed each one of those auditions.

He suffered season-ending injuries twice in his first two seasons, during which time he didn't perform any worse than a rookie QB would be expected to. Then Warner became awesome again and Leinart was relegated to the bench. Whisenhunt did not declare a starter this pre-season, the media merely speculated that Leinart would get the nod, which he should have but didn't since he at least payed his dues whereas Anderson sucked for the last two years and played just as poorly in pre-season. It is a misconception to think that Leinart failed. His career was ruined by injuries, a resurgent Hall-of-Fame QB and coach who did not support him or show him any confidence. I don't care how much you don't like the guy, but it's foolish to assume they wouldn't have been better off with him on the team than DA and two rookies.

Matt Leinart wouldn't have made a lick of difference.  Captain Checkdown couldn't have done any better, especially given that both lines are train wrecks.  It would have taken a Kurt Warner-grade QB to keep this barge afloat.
