Urban Meyer decided to suddenly up and retire yesterday and it took all of negative 10 seconds for everyone in the world to at least ponder whether or not he was considering a run at coaching Tim Tebow again with the Denver Broncos.

Well, all you jerkstores who decided to speculate on that silly possibility (oh, wait, was that me?) can shut up. Because Meyer says he's not coaching next season.

"I'm not coaching next season," Meyer said with a smile when asked about the Denver rumors.

He was also referring to the possibility that he'd coach at Michigan too (even though they don't even have an opening).

Look, the Meyer discussion yesterday was absolutely, 100 percent speculation. That was clear when we discussed it, and no one actually thought a) Meyer would be silly enough to randomly make a run at the NFL or b) the Broncos would be silly enough to make a run at a guy with no NFL head coaching experience.

But Tebow and Meyer are forever intertwined because of their success at Florida, so when the opportunity to coach Tebow opens up and two days later Meyer quits his current job, well, people are at least going to ask.

Urban Meyer: 'I'm not coaching next season'

I would like to see Coach Urb serve as a college football studio analyst for ESPN or FOX.  He was a great smacker when Florida was dominant, so he should have mad skills  behind the microphone.  It would be nice to hear his opinions about the BCS or a playoff system.

Urban Meyer: 'I'm not coaching next season'

Isn't it obvious what is going on here?  He is waiting a year, so when UC has another bad year he will come back to his old playing and coaching stomping grounds and take over for Butch Jones.  I mean it is no suprise...:P

And why would you believe anything Urb says?  Didn't he profess his love for ND before quitting on them?  Didn't he profess his love for Utah before quitting on them?  Didn't he say he would run a clean program before putting 10 felons and 20 more criminals in the program to disgrace the University?  Didn't he claim to be an offense genius before setting football back about 100 years with his ridiculous option offense?  Didn't he already quit once?

Urban Meyer: 'I'm not coaching next season'

Urban Meyer is going to the 49ers to resurrect Alex Smith's career. Smith is famous for doing well at Utah under Meyer's coaching, but Smith has done nothing impressive since. Smith is so bad at QB that people must think that he won the Heisman in college. Speaking of which...why do Heisman winning college QB's fail in the pros?

Urban Meyer: 'I'm not coaching next season'

Considering the last 365 days or so, unless you see it for yourself, the possibility is there. Pete Carroll went to the Seahawks and granted he has prior NFL experience, he wasn't a winning head coach with the Jets and in Seattle, he may not be .500 this season too. So until the Broncos hire someone other than Urban Meyer, until the next 24 hours or until the Gators hire a new head coach, Meyer is still on the table to coach, even though he said he isn't or won't.

Let the man make up his own mind.  Leave him alone.  If he want's to coach, he can go anywhere. pro, college or else.  This man is a motivator, he could probably bring a National Championship to Vandy.

I understand why everyone is interested in this, but some of the disscussion I don't get.  He will not coach for awhile, end of story.  If the time frame is 1year or 5, we don't know.  As for now it won't be the Broncos, Michigan, Liverpool, or Chico's bail bonds.  He is done for a bit, so let him be done.  I'm sure in the near future he will resurface.  I have a hunch that finding a new gig won't be to tough!

"no one actually thought the Broncos would be silly enough to make a run at a guy with no NFL head coaching experience." At one point, every head coach had no prior nfl head coaching experience. might want to re-word that.
