Matt Cassel not practicing Friday, Croyle time?

Matt Cassel, the freaking slacker to end all slackers, didn't practice on Friday, a full two days after having his appendix removed.

Which means, as Kent Babb points out in the Kansas City Star, that it's about time to get this Brodie Croyle bandwagon rolling.

For the Chiefs, well, this isn't good, one would suppose, because they'd rather have Cassel than not have Cassel. But there's a silver lining, too. Because Cassel isn't practicing Friday, they've got a legitimate non-decision to make when it comes to playing their franchise quarterback FOUR DAYS AFTER AN APPENDECTOMY. They shouldn't need a real reason for this, but they do, apparently, because he wasn't ruled out right when he left the hospital.

In fact, it would be blatantly irresponsible to start him at this juncture, considering it would risk his long-term health as well as the remainder of their season.

Plus, while the Chiefs will theoretically need some points from their offense (something Croyle might not be able to manage as well as Cassel), they can still contend with the Chargers sans Cassel. It'll require a strong effort from their offensive line and a creative gameplan from Charlie Weis, but if they properly utilize Thomas Jones and Jamaal Charles (as they have all season) to eat up chunks of time with long drives, things will be manageable enough for an upset.

Dr. Brinson, please pull your head out. The surgery is no big deal. The recovery depends on the individuals pain threshhold. There isn't any health dangers after this surgery. He should play.

How is it an upset if the Chiefs have the 2 game lead over the Chargers?

Because it's not always about what your record is. If Matt Cassel, who's playing like a top 5 QB right now, isn't starting, then the Chiefs are a totally different team.

If the Colts play the Rams without Peyton Manning, do you really expect the Colts to win that game? If the Vikings are playing without Brett Favre... Okay, bad example, but you get my drift.

And since we're on the Cassel thing, I'm glad to see him doing well in Kansas City. A lot of people were bashing this guy last season, saying his production in NE was all because of Moss and Welker. I know his improvement has a lot to do with KCs running game, but still, I think it's pretty cool he's doing well this season.

Right now you'd have to say he's the best QB from USC in the NFL. That's actually saying something considering there's, what, four of them... Cassel, Sanchez, Palmer, Leinhart. Ironic considering the guy couldn't even get a start in college.

with a two game lead in the division it is really a good thing to have croyle start because he will have control of the offence from the start of the game.  the coaching staff will get to see if he is a good quality back up and if he does bad they can dump him in the off season and get a better back up or if he does really good keep him or it improves his trade value.

My first guess, as well as any intelligent person's, would be that since Brodie Croyle is starting, it would be an upset if the Chiefs won.  I mean, that's just off the top of my head.  I will give you that people have been over hyping the Chargers all season and not showing the Chiefs enough respect.  Take the starting QB off of most teams in the NFL and put that team up against a quality opponent and tell me who will be the favorite.  I'll take the team with the starting QB playing against the team with a back up that has never won an NFL game in his career any day.
