Smith, Nicks questionable for Giants, should play

Giants fans concerned about the team's wide receiver depth can breathe a little easier for the moment, as it appears as if both Steve Smith and Hakeem Nicks will return Sunday against Minnesota.

For the moment, they're both listed as "questionable" (as noted by our Giants Rapid Reporter Alex Raskin) but coach Tom Coughlin expects his star receivers to start in Week 14.

Smith apparently "fell hard at practice" Friday, but "bounced right up" and later told reporters himself that he expected to play Sunday.

Smith's missed a substantial portion of time with a partially torn pectoral muscle, while Nicks missed a few weeks due to compartment syndrome in his leg.

Even as freak as those accidents are, the craziest thing about the Giants WR situation is that, as they vie for a division title and a playoff berth, they're starting to get pretty healthy, which could mean they peak at the right time.

Add in a dangerous pair of running backs, one of the toughest quarterbacks in the game (Mike Freeman's words, not mine, but I'll agree), a stout defense with dangerous pass-rushing potential, and the Giants have "peaking at the right time" stamped all over them. Last time that happened (2007), things worked out alright for the G-Men.

I think that if Smith and Nicks are able to return this week the Giants will start to come around and be a tough team to beat. I don't think that they will be able to beat the Eagle for the division but they will make the wildcard. Once in the playoffs they will be a tough team to beat due to their ground game and effective pass rush (Being able to put pressure on the QB with only 4 man)

I agree. It's all starting to come together-OL and WRs getting healthy, RBs finally both contributing, and the defense is strong. Just like other Giants teams that have fared well in the post season. Two monster games (Philly and at GB) back to back after this week, will all but decide their post season fate. At least they'll be at (near) full strength for them.

If they make the tourney, they will be very tough to beat. Prediction: it all comes together next week and they take down Vick and the Eagles on way to division title.

GO BLUE!!!
