Sal Alosi confirmed as Jets 'sideline tripper'

By the time you're reading this, the words "Sal Alosi" will be trending on Twitter. That's because Sal Alosi is the name of the Jets coach who tripped the Dolphins' Nolan Carroll during Sunday's game.

Alosi, a strength and conditioning coach in his fourth year with the Jets, stuck his leg out and took Carroll down, as you can see below.

"The team is reviewing the situation and looking into the appropriate next steps," a Jets spokesperson told members of the media.

Originally, the Jets took Alosi was "ushered away under security" but the team eventually confirmed he was the guilty party.

Dolphins players didn't take the whole thing too well either.

"That is so dirty," Dolphins linebacker Karlos Dansby said, before nominating the play for Monday night's "Come on, MAN!" segment.

"They're cheaters -- they do what they do," Channing Crowder said. "They cheat and talk junk and they do all that stuff but we beat the hell out of them today. I tell you the truth, I would have broke that old man's leg."

Carroll himself said he wasn't mad and declined to comment on it (and, seriously, go watch Jeff Darlington's "Miami Minute" with all these quotes. They're hysterical.)

Of course, the Jets have plenty more to fix than just dirty strength and conditioning coaches on the sideline, as CBS Sports' Ian Eagle and Dan Fouts point out below.

This guy should be fired! The behavior is unacceptable and could have lead to serious injury.

With that said the NFL has to play between the lines. Players should not be able to run out of bounds on their own accord and re-enter the field of play. My opinion DOES NOT vindicate this jerk what he did was malicous with an intent to injure. The Jets shouldnt be taking this much time to fire him.

I agree- fire him. if a player had done this, he would be suspended already and then cut after the suspension.

It is very surprising to me that the Jets would allow this to drag out like this.  This was a classless move by a representative of a team that was already being called classless by many for their past actions, mainly from the coach.  Now, this will just give more fuel to the fire.  For some Jets fans to come on here and tell us how classy Woody Johnson is just comical.  Where is Mr Classy now?  I actually liked the Jets swagger, but now they have crossed the line.  The "investigation" should have taken about 5 seconds.  Now, the Jets are trying to figure out what to do with this situation.  Why try to put up a good front now, as it is too late.  Your true colors have been revealed.  The silence tells us all we need to know about this organization.  Now that they have taken so long to do anything, if anything is actually done, most people will know that it came from the league and public pressure.

I don't take issue if the guy holds the position where he is standing on the sideline and the player runs into him.  Players wear pads, coaches don't making him a moron for not getting out of the way.  But making him a bigger moron is that he admitted his intention was to trip Carroll without thinking about the consequences and serious injury that can result.  The guy needs to go and it can't happen soon enough.  Idiots like that shouldn't have the privledge to be employed by any NFL team.

what does that have to do with anything?  That there is a bigger jerk than you?  I guess the Taliban is old news then hunh?  The coach ADMITTED he acted like an ass.  There is no dispute that he tried to trip him.  He got caught in the heat of the moment, acted like an animal, and injured another man.  Then he realized that he couldn't hide it, found shame, and apologized.  A jerk, but still human.  Then you come along and make childish excuses and make me lose hope in humanity.  Why doesn't he just stab the man? Its just rivalry football.  Next time you go to a sports bar and act like this, some dude will beat you senseless.  When you ask why was he so mean he can tell you to join a book club.  You're sick.
