The speculation is over. The Vikings will play the Bears at the University of Minnesota’s TCF Bank Stadium on Monday.

This news comes courtesy of 1500 ESPN’s Cory Roufs, who tweets that an engineers confirms the Metrodome won’t be ready for next Monday’s game. Like Andy wrote earlier, that means the University of Minnesota will be the place to be.

Which means that fans who are planning to go should bundle up, because it’s going to be rather chilly outside (hey, this is what happens when you live in Minnesota during the winter months).

And just because we want to show it again, here’s the reason why the Metrodome can’t host the game. You know, in case you forgot.

UPDATED (8:38 p.m.): Statement from the Vikings:

We are committed to playing Monday night's game in Minnesota in front of our fans. With Mall of America Field at the Metrodome now unavailable, we have turned our full attention to the University of Minnesota's TCF Bank Stadium. We have been in close contact with the University and the NFL office since last weekend. Preparation of the stadium is fully underway and University officials have told us they will make every reasonable effort to ensure the stadium will be ready for Monday night. The league office is assisting our staff and the University to ensure the stadium is safe for our fans and meets the primary technical requirements for an NFL game. We appreciate the tremendous cooperation of the University of Minnesota and look forward to completing preparations for the game and turning this into a memorable experience for the State of Minnesota and Vikings fans.

More information will follow for those who hold tickets to the Vikings-Bears game.

So, uh, what happens if that "reasonable effort" isn't good enough?

A small price to pay.  Take this, for example, SUNY Cortland, NY(home of NY Jets summer camp) was given $500,000 to renovate dorm rooms and upgrade fields for two weeks of training camp.  Why not spend the money and make it a sweet, outdoor stadium?

i THINK IT IS ODD THAT THE THE LEAGUE IS SO DETERMINED TO FINE AND SUSPENDE PLAYERS FOR HARD HITS ON DEFENSES PLAYERS TO QUARTER BACKS FOR CONCUSSIONS WHEN MANY OF THIS YEARS CONCUSSIONS HAVE COME FROM QUARTER BACKS HITTING THIER HEADS ON THE TURF WHICH UNDER NORMAL CIRCUMSTANCES IS PLYABLE BUT THIS TURF IN MINNISOTA WILL BE LIKE CONCRETE AND ANYONE HITTING IT WILL BE LUCKY THAT THIER SKULLS DON'T CRACK WIDE OPEN AND BRAINS WILL POUR OUT ON THE ICE.

Haa haa! I love it that the Vikes fans actually have to brave the cold now! Laughing

As to the tickets, it will probably be a general admission, first-come, first-served. Those who are shut out by the seating capacity will probably get compensation of one kind or another - whether that be a replacement ticket at a later game, or reimbursement. At least that's how I'd do it. Minnesota folks are so nice, that they'd feel guilty if they didn't do SOMETHING! Innocent Wink

Personally, I think "Dinkytown" Vikings has a much better ring to it than "Minnesota" Vikings.

Will they serve beer there?  That is the big Question.

I was watching HLN on the way out the door this morning, and they said that they would.  one of the ings that will cost $700,000 getting the stadium ready.

TCF Bank Stadium was built to be expandable to a capacity of 80,000. So, yes, it could theoretically become the Vikings' new home after renovations. But there will have to be agreements on the part of the University, the Vikings, and I'm sure the state of Minnesota would have some say. And where would the money come from?

Well, "that's how dad did it"!  Wasn't football always played outdoors in the past, before technology allowed for construction of DOMES?  Football is a game where the elements play crucial roles in calling games...it is a warriors game and nature should be involved as with any battle.  Where does everyone else in Minnesota play football?  OUTSIDE!!!!  I think it will be great to see...will make Lambeau look mild...well, milder:)!

One problem is that TCF Bank stadium is small for an NFL stadium.
