The speculation is over. The Vikings will play the Bears at the University of Minnesota’s TCF Bank Stadium on Monday.

This news comes courtesy of 1500 ESPN’s Cory Roufs, who tweets that an engineers confirms the Metrodome won’t be ready for next Monday’s game. Like Andy wrote earlier, that means the University of Minnesota will be the place to be.

Which means that fans who are planning to go should bundle up, because it’s going to be rather chilly outside (hey, this is what happens when you live in Minnesota during the winter months).

And just because we want to show it again, here’s the reason why the Metrodome can’t host the game. You know, in case you forgot.

UPDATED (8:38 p.m.): Statement from the Vikings:

We are committed to playing Monday night's game in Minnesota in front of our fans. With Mall of America Field at the Metrodome now unavailable, we have turned our full attention to the University of Minnesota's TCF Bank Stadium. We have been in close contact with the University and the NFL office since last weekend. Preparation of the stadium is fully underway and University officials have told us they will make every reasonable effort to ensure the stadium will be ready for Monday night. The league office is assisting our staff and the University to ensure the stadium is safe for our fans and meets the primary technical requirements for an NFL game. We appreciate the tremendous cooperation of the University of Minnesota and look forward to completing preparations for the game and turning this into a memorable experience for the State of Minnesota and Vikings fans.

More information will follow for those who hold tickets to the Vikings-Bears game.

So, uh, what happens if that "reasonable effort" isn't good enough?

Vikings-Bears will be at TCF Bank Stadium

It wasn't played there because the field had been winterized and could not be game ready in time.  Go Bears.

I always thought the Vikings gave up a huge homefield advantage when they moved indoors.  Playing at this stadium could open other discsussions.  I think the Metrodome is done.  But instead of building a completely new field is it possible to modify TCF Bank Stadium to support both NFL and College team?  From a money standpoint, this may have more support and help both the Vikings and the Golden Gophers.

The Giants vs Vikings game should have been played there too. If the discrepancy of seats vs ticket holders is an issue, it was one when they played in Detroit too, Viking fans were just as unable to attend. I think the dome should be assessed for where the structural damage ends and that much of the dome should be removed to play a final home game. Play it early enough that the natural & artificial lighting is optimal. Problem solved for 2010. It's not like the Vikings never played in the outdoors and cold. The Packers & Bears still play outside, the Lions and Vikings are domed and indoors. For 1 game, they can do it. It's not like the playoffs are going to be played there.

The U plays at Dolphin Stadium and serves alcohol there. With immense profits at stake of course there will be alcohol sold

The decision to serve alcohol at TCF Bank Stadium is one of the many topics under discussion...Alcohol is banned at campus athletic events, but the Vikings are trying to convince them to allow beer sales.  There is nothing official yet.  Also on the table is what they are going to do with the 13,000 people who had tickets to the Dome who won't have seats at TCF Bank Stadium.  I am willing to bet the NFL wins the alcohol discussion...who knows about the 13,000 ticket-less people.

I'm pretty sure that it's up to the school/conference whether or not to sell alcohol, as long as it's not an NCAA sponsored event.   Syracuse sells beer at their football games, as Carrier owns their stadium.  And I think San Diego State sells beer since they were playing off campus at Qualcomm Stadium.

Unless it is a law in the state of Minnesota, beer will be served. When the Bears played their home games at the University of Illinois, beer WAS served and the Stadium sits on campus. I sir i believe you are totally mistaken about this. Besides the NFL does carry alot of wieght, not as much as the 2 williams' that should have been suspended but close.

Alcohol? Seriously?

Is that all you tards can think about? Hah, I guess I would feel the same way if I were a Viqueens fan this year. Can we paint Favre's nasty looking hand purple for the game? Maybe old balls Favre can wear a viking helmet and parade around without a shirt on?
