The speculation is over. The Vikings will play the Bears at the University of Minnesota’s TCF Bank Stadium on Monday.

This news comes courtesy of 1500 ESPN’s Cory Roufs, who tweets that an engineers confirms the Metrodome won’t be ready for next Monday’s game. Like Andy wrote earlier, that means the University of Minnesota will be the place to be.

Which means that fans who are planning to go should bundle up, because it’s going to be rather chilly outside (hey, this is what happens when you live in Minnesota during the winter months).

And just because we want to show it again, here’s the reason why the Metrodome can’t host the game. You know, in case you forgot.

UPDATED (8:38 p.m.): Statement from the Vikings:

We are committed to playing Monday night's game in Minnesota in front of our fans. With Mall of America Field at the Metrodome now unavailable, we have turned our full attention to the University of Minnesota's TCF Bank Stadium. We have been in close contact with the University and the NFL office since last weekend. Preparation of the stadium is fully underway and University officials have told us they will make every reasonable effort to ensure the stadium will be ready for Monday night. The league office is assisting our staff and the University to ensure the stadium is safe for our fans and meets the primary technical requirements for an NFL game. We appreciate the tremendous cooperation of the University of Minnesota and look forward to completing preparations for the game and turning this into a memorable experience for the State of Minnesota and Vikings fans.

More information will follow for those who hold tickets to the Vikings-Bears game.

So, uh, what happens if that "reasonable effort" isn't good enough?

Vikings-Bears will be at TCF Bank Stadium

They will once again be (as my Viking Fan buddy calls them) the Manly Men!  Those videos of the flame throwers thawing old Metropolitan stadium are priceless.  This coming from a Rams fan that had to endure them losing in the frigid temps about every year in the 70s (except for the mud bowl in LA).  I can see how it will be an endurance test for the fans though.  I was at Giant Stadium when the Giants beat the indifferent Redskins and while it was in the 40s, it was still pretty cold at the top of the bowl when the sun went in the clouds.  I can't imagine a Super Bowl being held there.  It will be enough to freeze all those casual business owner fans that attend the SB.

Vikings-Bears will be at TCF Bank Stadium

Its fitting to do the 50 year celebration outdoors at TCF stadium. Most of the 50 greatest Vikings played outdoors at the old met. Couldn't imagine the purple people eaters playing indoors. The Bank will be jammed packed. It gives me a reason to be excited for the game during a season that has given us nothing to be excited about.

You are dead wrong.... This place WILL NOT have issues in selling out.... We Minnesotans have nothing else to live for other than saying.. "I was at game 7 of the 1-0 World Series win." or "I was at the Target Field opener...."... only 50K Minnesotans can claim they were at the first outdoor home game for the Vikings in 30 years.....

Solution to the 15,000 or so fans who can't be accomodated - Keep the Bears fans out!  Problem solved.

@ Josh Katzowitz

I'd say you made a "
reasonable effort" posting that article. Yet somehow it worked.

Vikings-Bears will be at TCF Bank Stadium

I wonder how many people will be willing to sit in subzero temperatures to watch a football game. I doubt they will even approach the seating capacity of TCF Bank Stadium. Nevertheless, Minnesota has been missing out on an awesome home field advantage for the past 3 or 4 decades. It should be exciting to watch the Vikings playing as a home team in a cold weather game. In a perfect world, they would work out a deal with the Gophers to make this a permanent home, because at this point, the Metrodome is decrepit and doesn't deserve to host anything other than a Justin Bieber concert.

15,000 paid fans will not be able to attend because of the difference in seating capacity. Are they going to count on them being no shows?
