Michael Vick talks about owning a dog

On the surface, it sounds like one of the most audacious statements in the history of mankind. "I would love to get another dog in the future," Michael Vick told TheGrio.com. Vick, you may have heard, doesn’t have a great track record with dog ownership. A court order rule prohibits him from owning a canine.
M. Vick (US Presswire)
But the Vick of today obviously views dog ownership in a different light than did the Vick of four years ago. "I think it would be a big step for me in the rehabilitation process. I think just to have a pet in my household and to show people that I genuinely care, and my love, and my passion for animals."

Strange as it is, Vick’s dogfighting trial was one of the best things to ever happen to pit bulls. It pulled back the curtain on the heinous underground activity and brought about a wave of public awareness and sympathy for the animals. Vick’s work with the Humane Society – including the work he has done not by legal obligation but by choice – has had a similar impact. And, perhaps most important, it has eliminated the pretext that dogfighting is simply part of back roads culture.

"I hate to use our culture as an excuse, but it is what it is and that's what happened and that's the way I thought about it growing up," Vick said. "This is just the way we were brought up."

Not anymore. Thanks to Vick, there isn’t a person in America who sees dogfighting in shades of grey.

Well said @ Ravens0420, well said.  Unfortunately, though, there not much point in arguing with High School drop outs that have a problem with authority. They'll never get it.

Michael Vick talks about owning a dog

"Vick lost two years of his life in a federal penitentiary, something 99 percent of us couldn't handle. Vick lost 2 years of his career in the NFL he can't have back. He lost over 100 million dollars in endorsement deals.  And aside from 1 house, a car and a couple of bucks he lost everything else he had.  If you or I did something like that we could get out of jail, change our names, move to another state, put together a resume, get a couple of good references from people that still like us and still work in our field where nobody would know us.  Our faces? Nobody, and i mean NOBODY in another state would know who we are just by looking at us.  Vick got punished 10000000 times more then any of us would on these boards.  And I would bet thousands of dollars we wouldn't even spend 2 years in prison.  Our case wouldn't be publicized to the degree Vick's case was and there would be no pressure on the district attorney to act.  We wouldn't be in every paper and on every television channel North American wide....."

Are you slow? A lil retarded maybe...Or just live in your own world???? Have you ever been convicted of a crime? That shit stays with you NO matter where you move, or try changing your name! Especially a felony! I don't know what field of work your in but I sure in the hell wouldn't be able to get back my job after a felony charge. And as far as Vick having it worst then if you or myself were in the situation....are you serious? I know ppl with misdemeanors that spent more time then 2 years. Vick got off easy!

I'm not a sentimentalist, not perfect, not a vegitarian, not many things. One thing I am is entitled to my opinion, just like you are to yours. I respect your opinion to make fun of dogs, God, whatever.  But in my opinion, you just might find yourself being the big PU$$Y that you are the day you need God in your life to save it, or to save one of your family members
No. In this case you're not entitled to your opinion because your opinion is not valid and your logic is full of holes.. it's ridiculous.

You don't get to choose what GOD is willing to accept and what he's not.... stupid bible thumpers like you make me wanna puke.  You can't tell me you respect animals too much to respect Vick either.

Unless you are a vegetarian and don't eat the meat of animals killed by people then you have nothing to say..... or wait, you do have something to say... typical bible thumper....

No matter what someone's opinion of what a dog's life is worth, a dog is a living being that was created by God. It has a God given right to exist among us, a right that no one has a right to exploit and kill for profit.
Really? Didn't God create all animals? What about deer? What about cows? What about bears? I could keep going with examples but why bother... you people are just as brain washed with your ridiculous beliefs as Vick was when he was dog fighting and gambling.

Do you eat meat? Do you or anybody in your family wear fur? If so, get off these boards or at least quit insulting Michael Vick because you have no say in anything.  You bible thumpers make me laugh.  You hate Vick for killing God's animals but 99 percent of you would gladly eat the meat from an animal somebody hunts in the woods.  You can't have it both ways with me... maybe in your world, but not mine.

Vick lost two years of his life in a federal penitentiary, something 99 percent of us couldn't handle. We wouldn't be in every paper and on every television channel North American wide.....

All of the above I typed is 100 percent true, nothing but facts.  You can't disagree with ANY OF THE ABOVE...  because facts are facts...

@Dejawhateryouare: did I touch your Atheist, dog hating nerve? Glad I did! I'm not a sentimentalist, not perfect, not a vegitarian, not many things. One thing I am is entitled to my opinion, just like you are to yours. I respect your opinion to make fun of dogs, God, whatever.  But in my opinion, you just might find yourself being the big PU$$Y that you are the day you need God in your life to save it, or to save one of your family members.  Pray to Vick when you do. As for not valuing a dog, hopefully you never go blind. Would hate to see you become a bigger PU$$Y wanting a seeing eye dog to guide you around. BTW, keep your box of Kleenex, you'll need it well before I ever do. But do send me the number to the Papa John's you work at, would love for you to deliver my next Pizza order.I'll even give you a big tip so you can buy your little stepson a stuffed animal.

Michael Vick talks about owning a dog

Look either one of two things are on Vic's mind right now. I want to stsrt another dog fighting senario for my frineds and I or he wants a dog. He says something that is key to have be beleive that he just wants a dog.

"I hate to use our culture as an excuse, but it is what it is and that's what happened and that's the way I thought about it growing up," Vick said. "This is just the way we were brought up."

Vick in my mind is still a scumbag. And not becasue I am a Giants fan.  (picked him up in my fantacy league just to sit him every week becasue this a$$hole fought dogs). Vick can shine the light to these kids and can relate to people who arent kids which is key. All our wanna be public figures don't get the respect or attention from the adult gang bangers(terrorist) . Previous gang memebers trying to do good by their community look like sell outs and God is too old school for todays culture even though you can apply to our times, but gangbangers dont have the moral balance that allows you to be religious.

We live in a time that celeberties and athlets have more power and sway then our own community. Its about time they step up and shape up these f*ck ups. Let them know dog fight, drug dealing, making babies and leaving the responsibility is not a culture blacks should be known for. They have been using too many excuses Vick can shine the light telling them they can do well in their life and contribute to society in a good way or not at all. Just dont do harm to your community or culture becasue it makes it that much harder for the people who are trying to do something step up and get past the sterotypes that make up the black culture. Negro collage fund, most money least used, afirmative action made it so you get a job before I do, and  "The Man" is black!  The only thing holding back your bullshit ghetto ass is your bullshit ghetto ass culture and the fact that if your not handed everyhting on a siver platter doesnt mean you can acheive something great. Everyone in this country wants the black culture to do something great and productive. The only people stoping you are yourselves. Vick can be the next M.L.K. All public figures now have skeletons, Vick had his and went to jail for them now its time for him to lead and keep others from following in his path.
