Michael Vick talks about owning a dog

On the surface, it sounds like one of the most audacious statements in the history of mankind. "I would love to get another dog in the future," Michael Vick told TheGrio.com. Vick, you may have heard, doesn’t have a great track record with dog ownership. A court order rule prohibits him from owning a canine.
M. Vick (US Presswire)
But the Vick of today obviously views dog ownership in a different light than did the Vick of four years ago. "I think it would be a big step for me in the rehabilitation process. I think just to have a pet in my household and to show people that I genuinely care, and my love, and my passion for animals."

Strange as it is, Vick’s dogfighting trial was one of the best things to ever happen to pit bulls. It pulled back the curtain on the heinous underground activity and brought about a wave of public awareness and sympathy for the animals. Vick’s work with the Humane Society – including the work he has done not by legal obligation but by choice – has had a similar impact. And, perhaps most important, it has eliminated the pretext that dogfighting is simply part of back roads culture.

"I hate to use our culture as an excuse, but it is what it is and that's what happened and that's the way I thought about it growing up," Vick said. "This is just the way we were brought up."

Not anymore. Thanks to Vick, there isn’t a person in America who sees dogfighting in shades of grey.

Michael Vick talks about owning a dog

I WORK AT AN ANIMAL SHELTER.  Have you ever seen the losing dogs from a planned fight ?  How good a QB would Vick be if his ears were torn off and his neck slashed and his legs in crumbles ?  I know, just DOWN HIM OR SHOOT HIM like the dogs he handled !!!  NO SYMPATHY OR 2ND CHANCE FROM a person that deals with people and dogs like he has.  OH ........... it's common just to dump losing dogs inb alleys too and leave them to suffer until ANIMAL CONTROL is called.  Anyone that HEARTLESS (Like VICK) has no chance at a 2nd chance in my boot.  Walk in my shoes and you would know what I am talking about.  Anyone this heartless with animals would (and will) treat humans the same.  I hope the next time VICK is sacked, someone one the bottom of the pile CHEWS HIS EARS OFF, EATS HIS GUTS and RIPS APART HIS HEAD and then DOWNS HIM !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Michael Vick talks about owning a dog

Steelers fan here, and I am in huge support of this guy. I hope he can keep it up. It's obvious that what he did was wrong, however in his 2 years back, he has been a great samaritan and a defining superstar in the NFL. Everyone of us makes mistakes (except maybe Tom Brady). Everyone needs to take off their hater goggles and realize that mistakes exist so that we may learn from them and become a better person.

Stealing money to pay your defense lawyers after you get caught breaking the law = scumbag.

Not paying it back in full despite having a $2 million dollar home and an NFL contract = not sorry about doing it.

Grow up dude.  He lost 2 years in the NFL, spent 2 years in a federal penitentiary, lost 100 million in endorsements and was disgraced North American wide if not world wide.  That's not enough for you?  And how do you know he's not sorry?  Do you read minds?

I know you want the death penalty but off your knees, you're not getting that.  And if you want worse then he got for a punishment, what do we do with child molesters or murderers of PEOPLE??  And what about lifetime drug dealers that go a lifetime without paying taxes? I could go on and on.. but you're too dumb to get it..

How can anyone think Vick is "sorry" when he stole $1.3 million dollars and is only planning to pay back about $400k

The plan assets were partly used to help pay the criminal restitution imposed upon Vick after his conviction for unlawful dog fighting, as well as his attorney in Vick's bankruptcy cases, according to the complaint. From March 7, 2007, through July 7, 2008, Vick made and caused withdrawals from the retirement plan, the DoL had alleged.

And about the Vick thing; I've had the same opinion since he got out of prison.

He committed a crime. It was very, very wrong. The NFL let him back in. The Eagles were willing to sign him and pay him, so he's playing. He's playing well. He'll get a huge contract in the offseason.

Those are the facts. Do I think he deserved a second chance to play football? A lot of us don't deserve second chances, but we get them all the time. Chances are, we've all probably gotten a second chance at some thing or another at some point in our lives. Some things are worse than others. We give criminals a chance to rejoin society when they come out of prison, why should Vick be any different? He is a ex-con just like many other men, many of which have actually successfully rejoined society, for whatever reason.

Another thing I do know, is that Vick is doing the right things since he has been given that second chance. He has had no conduct violations, he has fulfilled his legal obligations, and even done above and beyond those as well. Is he sincere? We don't know his heart, and that's not our job to know. If he never commits another crime and continues to do good work with the humane society, etc., would he be okay then? Sadly, for some people, it still wouldn't be good enough.

Dynasty, why even feel the need to argue with everyone, especially talking about your workout regimen and career status? I'm pretty sure they aren't going to believe you anyway, so there is no need....just let it go. You can feel good about your own accomplishments and don't have to try to prove that stuff to others.

Michael Vick talks about owning a dog

Ok I agree Vick will be highly sought after next year and right fully so.  He is an awesome quaterback and has all the potential to be one of the greatest to ever play the game.  I also think that Vick owning a dog again would not be such a bad thing, He still has some wrongs to right.  But what makes you think that dogs dont have souls,  and whether they do or dont does not make what he and his deliquent friends did ok.  I am a fan of Vicks and believe people can change.  obviously he has cause now he can actually complete a pass from inside the pocket.
