Michael Vick talks about owning a dog

On the surface, it sounds like one of the most audacious statements in the history of mankind. "I would love to get another dog in the future," Michael Vick told TheGrio.com. Vick, you may have heard, doesn’t have a great track record with dog ownership. A court order rule prohibits him from owning a canine.
M. Vick (US Presswire)
But the Vick of today obviously views dog ownership in a different light than did the Vick of four years ago. "I think it would be a big step for me in the rehabilitation process. I think just to have a pet in my household and to show people that I genuinely care, and my love, and my passion for animals."

Strange as it is, Vick’s dogfighting trial was one of the best things to ever happen to pit bulls. It pulled back the curtain on the heinous underground activity and brought about a wave of public awareness and sympathy for the animals. Vick’s work with the Humane Society – including the work he has done not by legal obligation but by choice – has had a similar impact. And, perhaps most important, it has eliminated the pretext that dogfighting is simply part of back roads culture.

"I hate to use our culture as an excuse, but it is what it is and that's what happened and that's the way I thought about it growing up," Vick said. "This is just the way we were brought up."

Not anymore. Thanks to Vick, there isn’t a person in America who sees dogfighting in shades of grey.

I (respectfully) vehemently disagree with this sentence.

This was more than a mistake. Slipping on a bananna peel is a mistake. Putting a shirt on inside out is a mistake.

What he did was unforgivable. The souls of those poor dogs are no less valuable than any other. They felt the pain just like any other living, breathing animal. And don't put words in my mouth by saying something like, I put the life of a dog over a human.

The biggest problem I have is this ... Vick has apologized repeatedly. He's sorry to the NFL, sorry to the fans, sorry to the Comish, sorry he lost his fortune, sorry he went to jail.

But when has this waste of life ever said anything like, "I'm truly sorry for the unimagineable pain caused to the dogs I was involved with torturing. I regret repeatedly slamming their bodies to the ground until they were dead. I regret holding them under water till they drown. I regret holding electrical wires to them until they died horriffic deaths of electrocution. I regret this because I now understand the atrocity of my actions and the compassion I feel for the dogs I murdered is overwhelming"?

To the best of my knowledge this has never happened.

So for that reason, I hope he dies soon. I hope he takes a vicious hit on the field that paralyzes him. I hope for absolutely nothing but the worst for this low life that doesn't deserve to breathe ... because he isn't sorry about what counts. He could give a rat's A$$.

Michael Vick talks about owning a dog

Does anyone know how long his ban on owning a dog is?  Perhaps its something that he has to appeal to a judge in order to be allowed to own one.  Anyhow, I'd love to see him get a small dog, maybe a chihuaha or a West Highland Terrier and take it around with him wherever he goes.  Maybe even keep it in a little Coach bag like Paris Hilton does!  All kidding aside though this is totally not newsworthy and it just goes to show how low we have become that we actually give two craps about this guy and his dogfighting past.  The media nowadays is crazy.

Actually, there was an article recently about how Vick is, in fact, paying back all his DEBT. Not filing for bankruptcy which would have been the easy way out. I'm not sure what you mean by him stealing from people's retirement funds.

Goldfish fight like gurls.  Who would want to bet on that?  It's like watching quadraplegic UFC

I agree. I would never waste my time watching goldfish fight. But in all seriousness this will wind up getting blown way out of proportion. This man made a mistake. He went to prison for it, and he is being a productive citizen again. Leave him alone already. Let him get a dog. Heck let him get 2 dogs. If they happen to get in a fight would that be his fault? Ok nevermind lets go back to the goldfish idea.

When I first read this headline I thought we were all being punked.  But maybe he's serious.  Maybe he really is that stupid.

What I see is a contrite man who has gone above and beyond what was expected of him prove himself ginuine

Really?  Has he bothered to pay back the money he stole from innocent people's retirement funds??

Because going "above & beyond" would usually include giving back what you stole...   But not for Vick right?

Enough is enough people!

People still cannot fathom the idea that a man can make a mistake, own that mistake, be punished for that mistake, learn from that mistake and then become a better man because of it.  I was one of the millions who was utterly disgusted by Vick and had my share of fun with jokes and criticism, but enough is enough.  The man has been humbled and I have more respect for him now than I have ever had for him and it has nothing to do with football.  What I see is a contrite man who has gone above and beyond what was expected of him prove himself ginuine.  People are still hammering the guy like he is the scum of the Earth.  I think owning a dog would be a good thing for Mr. Vick and be the perfect end to this long and tiresome journey. People need to just let it go.  He has paid his debt to society, has suffered immense financial penalties, emotional distress and his image was absolutely ruined.  How long must a man be judged by people who have their own set of flaws?
