Goodell: Favre decision coming soon

FORT WORTH, TEXAS -- Perhaps it's fitting that the final question Roger Goodell was asked following a lengthy post-owners' meeting press conference involved Brett Favre.

After all, with his theoretical impending retirement, he's kind of become an afterthought. But that doesn't mean the Commissioner can completely bypass any ruling on the situation.

The good news for those of us still clinging to this wrinkly soap opera is that it's coming to a close fairly soon -- Goodell said he'd received a final report and would rule on the situation soon.

"I got a report some time last week and expect that some time in the near future I will make a decision," Goodell said.

When pressed as to whether that decision would be made before the end of the season, Goodell said, "I expect so, yes."

Of course, it might not matter. Favre had his consecutive start streak recently (at 297, on a Monday night game that the entire country couldn't watch), and he's unlikely to play again this year (the Vikings just signed Patrick Ramsey to play quarterback, so good is their depth chart situation).

Additionally, Favre's said he'll retire after this year (yes, yes, grain of salt and whatnot).

Which means that even if Goodell decides to suspend the gunslinger, it might mean absolutely nothing, because he's unlikely to take the field anyway.

But at the very least, we'll get some resolution soon. Unless Jenn Sterger's people actually acquiesce to the request of Favre's lawyer and file a lawsuit against the quarterback. But that won't be the NFL's concern in about three weeks.

Once again I will say this... She had a friend with her when Favre sent the messages. She thought it was funny and was contemplating on going over they and was unsure on what to do. This was not harrassment. Period. She will try to get money out of this somehow, someday. If it goes to court she will lose and all those in her camp know it. That is why they want the quick ruling. If the NFL side with her it will make her court case stronger than what it is.

As for her wanting of the NFL to start a program to stop sexual harrassment I say start by banning sluts like Jenn Sturger from getting anywhere near athletes. Problem solved.

Favre guilty of WHAT?
The NFL is doing EXACTLY what they should be doing.
Sweeping this wench and her 2 YEAR OLD attempt at BLACKMAIL under a rug.

First, Favre admitted sending the sexually explicit voicemails, he has only denied the pictures.  Sorry, but that could be, and I stress "could be" because none of us have all the facts, considered sexual harrasment (we won't even go it to the moral issues considering he is a married man).  If it is proven he also sent unwanted, sexually explicit pictures, that is also sexual harrassment and against both NFL rules and the rule of law.  Again, I am not prejudging -- we'll let the results of the NFL investigation speak for themselves.

Second, the above being said, right or wrong, the last thing the NFL should do is "sweep it under the rug".  If the NFL investigation determines Brett Favre violated NFL conduct policies and sexually harrassed a league/team employee then they should say so and Favre should be punished.  If the NFL investigation determines it was not sexual harrassment, they should say so as well.  Either way, the public should know what the evidence was so people on both sides know the allegations were not "swept under the rug" because of Brett Favre's fame and reputation.  The NFL shoud be doing an open, honest, and fair investigation -- not sweeping anything under the rug.

Third, what "blackmail"?  Sterger has not filed any lawsuit or demanded any money from Favre.  She has specifically stated that if the NFL takes action to discipline Favre for what she alleges was inappropriate conduct she will not file a lawsuit against Favre.  If that is blackmail it is absolutely the worst blackmail attempt I have ever heard of in my life.

The next thing we will hear from Jenn Sterger will be a book (undoubtedly written by a ghostwriter) co-authored by Karen Sypher. The title will be "How not to extort a sports professional" or "Confessions of a fame whore".

Of course Favre's character and ethics wouldn't allow him to do such a thing.  And for those who think he did a 'lay down' for Michael Strahan's QB sack record, he slipped down.  His character and ego have always been above reproach.  In fact, he's one that other's go to at times to confess their own shortcomings.

If the NFL suspended every player that has done something similar to what Favre did in this case, we would be watching 3 on 3 football on Sundays......with Tim Tebow as the honorary captain of all teams.

So Favre sent her some voicemails.........BIG DEAL.
IF she was so offended, she wouldn't have saved this on her cell phone for TWO YEARS.

PATHETIC! Anyone who's taking her side is a complete and utter IDIOT.
