Tarvaris Jackson's consecutive start streak is over. At one. Brett Favre's replacement was placed on injured reserve Thursday, effectively ending his season and likely his career as a Viking.

Jackson suffered a turf toe injury against the Giants Monday, so Minnesota went out and signed Patrick Ramsey to back up rookie Joe Webb (who, apropos of nothing, is probably eligible as a wide receiver in fantasy, which I find fascinating) for Monday's game against Chicago.

Jackson's contract is up at the end of 2010, and it seems likely, with Brad Childress out of the picture, that both the Vikings and Jackson end up going their separate ways.

As for the fact that Favre isn't headed to IR yet, well, let's just say there's still a chance we see him play this year. Although a cameo against Chicago in eight-degree weather seems like a poor choice, unless Minnesota wants to see him end his career like a bug drifting around the Autobahn at windshield level.

The Vikings themselves will not lose money on the stadium collapse because they don't own the stadium. All the losses connected with this ARE covered by insurance

What a power wuss....would Terry Bradshaw or Bart Starr be out for the season with a toe injury?  How do you get that hurt in less than one game?  If you are that fragile, you don't belong in football.

When I saw the line, "The End?", I thought that they were going to talk about the end of the Vikings franchise as we know it.  Brett Favre has completely destroyed the quaterback position on that team and pretty much ran the show in Minnesota himself. T Jack has shown that he cant play and is a pansy and now you have to go out an sign Patrick Ramsey.  Better hope that they can make some moves in the draft next year to get the #1 pick.

And Brett was selfish to come back. The playes knew Jackson was a joke. They had nothing else. All you Brett haters need to say"sorry". The Vikings did the right thing. If Rice was not hurt 1/2 the seasons MAYBE thing would have been different.
I wholeheartedly agree that Favre was shafted by only having half of his offense able to play throughout the season. But, the lack of offensive production wasn't the only, or biggest problem. The defense sucked this year. It was a global collapse by the team determined to happen it anything was different from last years playoff team. Given the age of Favre, the age of the interior defensive line, the injured secondary, the growing resentment of the headcoach by the players, teh loss of Rice, Harvin inability to stay healthy, O-lines inability to stay healthy (Huthinson), the Randy Moss failure, they were doomed.

This is really gonna point out the flaws in what Childress did and how he handled his QB situation. Went all in with a 40 yr old QB with a few solid free agents around, didn't make a play for any of them. Didn't draft a QB, and somehow thought TJ was a solid backup plan. Now they 40 yr old guy is most likely done, at least after the season, TJ hasn't developed into the guy Chilly thought he could be (though i dunno anyone else who had that much faith in him) and they have Ramsey and a Joe Webb, whos apparently a WR. I don't know what they plan on doing, but the Vikes could be in a bears-like QB state for a long time. They either need to get lucky, draft a guy, or be a mediocre team, constantly changing QBs for a while.
On a side note, anyone else think that this is perfect storm for a team like the vikes to be moved? Their 30 yr old stadium collapsed, The state doesnt want to build them a new one, they have no future QB, they are bad and had a HUGELY disappointing season, and they are losing a TON of money tryign to get the TCF stadium ready and renting/moving everything they would usually have at the site of the game. Not saying its gonna happen at all, but if there was ever a time to do it, its now.
