Grossman to start over McNabb Sunday

The Redskins didn’t wait until the final two minutes of a close game to throw their “franchise quarterback” under the bus this week: according to Kelli Johnson of Comcast Sports Net, Rex Grossman is getting the starting nod over Donovan McNabb against the Cowboys.
R. Grossman (US Presswire)
Grossman and McNabb have been splitting the first team reps in practice the past two weeks or so. It is believed that Redskins offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan thinks Grossman has a better grasp of the system (Grossman played for Shanahan in Houston last season).

For the Redskins, this is a potential nightmare that could make the Haynesworth fiasco look trivial in comparison. Johnson reports that several players are “extremely upset” and that the locker room is divided. Jason La Canfora of NFL.com says many players believe Kyle Shanahan (and, one would assume, Mike Shanahan, as well) has lost credibility because he is using McNabb as a scapegoat. The Redskins offense ranks 27th in scoring.

In November, McNabb signed what was believed to be a long-term megadeal with the Redskins. However, the media later discovered that Washington would be on the hook for just $3.75 million if McNabb was cut after the 2010 season. That scenario now looks likely.

Replacing any quarterback with the turnover-prone Grossman is a move that speaks volumes about the quarterback being replaced. In other words, the Skins aren’t turning to Grossman because they like his potential; they’re turning to Grossman because they no longer respect McNabb’s game.

The backlash from this move, particularly if Grossman struggles, is going to be monumental. Word is Mike Shanahan was utterly ill-prepared to face the scrutiny after benching McNabb against Detroit. Shanahan is not ill-prepared this time. He wouldn’t open Pandora’s box if he thought McNabb was going to be in Washington next season.

For McNabb, whose 77.5 passer rating ranks 25th in the NFL, the discussion now focuses on which team will sign him in 2011. One has to figure the Arizona Cardinals will be at the forefront of that discussion.

Grossman to start over McNabb Sunday

Grossman's bad reputation came playing with a limited running game, average at best receiving corp, and a horrendous line.  To top it off he had the worst offensive coordinator in Turner.  He has a great deep ball.  If you let him throw deep a few times a game (especially with Moss who is better than any of the Bears receivers he played with) he should end up with enough Td's to over shadow the INTs.  Shanahan and Turner (or Older Shanahan and Lovie) are night and day.

I am not saying that he will have a great game, just saying the potential is there.  Which would really make McNabb look bad.

AND this is why i see McNabb gone next year and i see Jake Locker being the Redskins pick in the 2011 NFL Draft. i expect Washington to sign a receiver in free agency and i expect Shanahan to do his best to draft Jake Locker and move on from McNabb.

Grossman to start over McNabb Sunday

I'm absolutely no Redskins fan but this is rediculous as Donovan McNabb is NOT the reason the Redskins suck AGAIN this year. It's everyone they have around him on offense. Not to mention their defense also sucks!

I guess Shanahan has developed a significant case of Alzhiemers as the guys has lost his mind.

Seriously, that team in DC needs their heads checked. No doubt this came from the man who is the brightest mind in professional sports. Mr. Snyder. If he is going to throw his money away, he should just give it to me.

Grossman to start over McNabb Sunday

Why doesn't Shannahan start a fan? He has a better chance of winning a game if he pulls a fan from the bleechers and puts them under center then he does starting Grossman. Guess I'm dropping Moss who I just picked up for this week cause Malcom Floyd was out. WTF?

Two words for McNabb: "Arizona Cardinals"
Forget this bunch of loozers, the Cards are lodded with talent, just missing one piece to the puzzle.  That is the best place for him to get his ring he so well deserves.

Rex Grossman hasn't done JACK since college

Rex Grossman has sure been one clunker of a pro. He did well as a Florida Gator, but not in the NFL. What is Mike Shanahan thinking starting Rex over Donovan McNabb??? What a doofus....
