A. Gates
This isn’t news to anyone who was listening closely to Antonio Gates during his interview with the NFL Network down on the sideline prior to Thursday night’s Niners-Chargers game: the All-World tight end is expected to miss the rest of the regular season because of his foot injury.

According to Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union Tribune, Gates, suffering from super painful plantar fascia, hopes to return for the postseason(if the Chargers make the postseason, that is). Acee has a very good source: Gates himself.

“I think that’s kind of the goal,” Gates said, reiterating what he hinted at with the NFL Network prior to the game.

Gates, who had started 96 straight games prior to this season, has sat out four of San Diego’s last six contests. Veteran Randy McMichael has done a serviceable job filling in as the starter.

Also if the Jets lose 2 and the Chargers run the table we are also in the playoffs.  I see the Jets losing this week and possible to Chicago.

My Chargers can't help but keep me on the edge of my seat every season. My wife is bugging me to do Christmas shopping this Sunday but I gotta game to watch (KC vs. STL)! Hopefully Cassel stays on the bench nursing his appendix (or lack thereof) and resting Gates for the post season will prove not to have been done in vain. I think McMichael certainly doesn't replace Gates but he's doing more than expected and proving to be just as reliable. Hopefully we can run the table as expected and KC will suffer a loss and we can get into the playoffs with everyone healthy and at 100% and finally live up to everyones expectations of finally bringing a Championship home to SD. (Ideal ending: SD vs. CHI in the Superbowl and Rivers gets to shove it down the throat of his old AFC West nemesis, Jay Cutler! I'd like to see that!)

@Boltbacker: Of course the Chargers can get to the post-season.  They need help to do it, but the trouble with that is....they need help to do it!!  They do  NOT control their own destiny.   If they don't get help, there IS no post-season for Gates!  The Chiefs know they need to run the table.  They may not do it, but that's their focus.   Don't count them out until they lose a game.

Nukeembaby is right. McMichael is playing really well - haven't seen him do anything wrong - made a couple of great catches v SF - even controlled a hideous bobble - there's no problem at tight end. But every special teams situation is still very unnerving - letting Ginn tiptoe down the sideline , as if invisible , is not comforting - got away with a major boo-boo here. Go bolts ( and Rams ! ) !!

Would be a good part to have the rest of the way since the Chargers need to win the rest of their games but I think after Vjax's performance last night, Gates can take some time off and come back if the Chargers make the playoffs, hopefully everyone is back healthy and the Chargers can get the job done and win it all this year!
