The Steelers know they'll likely face the Jets without the services of Troy Polamalu. But there's also a possibility that the Pro Bowl safety could miss the remainder of the entire season.

That's according to a report from John Harris at the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review who hears from sources that Polamalu could skip games at the Jets, Panthers and Browns.

The good news is that the Jets game was expected, and the Panthers and Browns shouldn't be too problematic anyway. They clearly represent a pair of games that the Steelers could win without having to put Polamalu on the field.

Therefore, keeping him on the sidelines and allowing him to rest and heal before the playoffs with games that might not matter all that much are a critically intelligent move.

Polamalu is a difference-maker for the Steelers defense, and not having him on the field during the playoffs would drastically change the team's defensive makeup.

as far as taking any nfl game for granted is dumb. we all can agree that the panthers or browns aren't the real deal this year, anything can happen and usually somthing does to that team.
The Browns DESTROYED the Saints and the Pats, two teams that at the very least are equals to the Steelers.  Do I think they'll do the same to the Steelers?  No.  But I'm only saying that won't happen because the Steelers are a smart  team and won't take them for granted.

If I'm wrong and the Steelers do take them for granted, they can lose that game easily.....  the Steelers offense is inconsistent and the Browns have a great running game....

two headlines for pats fans...spygate and tuck rule..without them you aint got
I have to words that describe you as well.  Pathetic is one.  Loser is another.

The Pats won something like 15 games in a row after they got "caught" ... that "spygate" thing.   The Pats won 11 games the next season with a backup qb that hadn't started since grade school.  And the Pats made the playoffs again last year winning a ton of games.  And this year with the youngest defence in football they are dominating again.

Your Steelers? I respect the team, how can anybody say they aren't a great organization? But if you don't think that at the very least they had a significant edge in calls when they beat the Seahawks in the Superbowl in Detroit then you aren't a true fan of the game... but of course, you forgot all about that game didn't you?  Convenient....

the news Polamalu might sit the rest of season is troublsome to me .. i dont mind against the jets and the panthers but he must play a little in the browns game to stay sharp .. i 'm not a fan of resting players in the last game of regular season but a reduced time or lighter load is ok.

bring on the nfl playoffs!! and may the bosses of the nfl grant the steelers the right to avenge the loss to the pats and build on the biggest jewellry box in the league!

Schmitty, I hate to say it but spygate had nothing to do with the way the Patriots dominated our Steelers this year. They have that short to midrange passing game that eats up the bend but don't brake style defense the Steelers play. It was actually the Bengals who showed everyone how to beat our defense. Luckily for the Steelers not every coach-quarterback combo can or will take advantage of this weakness. LeBeau needs to risk it and play tighter coverage. So what if they give up a big play or two, the result can't be worse than 39 points. It will give our pass rush a better chance of getting to Brady, and help us win the time of possession helping keep the defense fresh.

Unfortunately the O line is what it is for the rest of the season.

Kinda upset by this decision, but I would much rather have Polamalu out there in the postseason. Todays game will be the toughest of the season. Than Steelers got Browns and Panthers
