Kluwe says TCF Bank field is "unplayable"

The NFL apparently has taken great pains to make sure the playing conditions for the Monday night game between the Bears and Vikings are safe at TCF Bank Stadium. But if you follow Vikings punter Chris Kluwe on his Twitter account, you’re hearing a different story.

A sampling of tweets from Kluwe after Minnesota had a walk-through on the field:

-Serious time - All respect to the people that cleared the field and got it ready, you did an amazing job. That being said, it's unplayable.

-The field is as hard as concrete an hour and a half after they took the tarp off, and anyone that hits their head is getting a concussion.

-I find it interesting that the NFL can claim an emphasis on player safety, and then tell us the field is fine. It's beyond hypocritical.

-I can only hope, however unlikely, that no one gets catastrophically injured at the trainwreck that's about to take place tomorrow night.

-@PaulCharchian Without a doubt. It's worse than that old AstroTurf they used to have (and got rid of for safety reasons).

-I've been asked not to tweet anymore about the field so as not to distract teammates (who were there) and I will honor that.

Kluwe says TCF Bank field is "unplayable"

Here is Kluwe's latest tweet:

"OMG! There's snow outside! Hopefully a line of people will lie down in it so I can walk across their backs to get to the team bus. "
Yea very sarcastic, but the bottom line is that this guy just doesn't get it.  He feigns tackles and acts as if he's a special athlete.  Send him back to Mamby Pamby land!  Hockey players have less protection and are commonly hit and flung about at crazy speeds, and this punter thinks he's too good to play in the snow on trurf that has rubber pellets in it. What a loser.

he might be a punter, but he's still more of a football player than any of us will ever be

Yes, that may be true, but he will never become the military man that I am, nuff said.

From little league through college, except for the big time college programs, the field is just a reality of playing football in the winter in Minnesota outside.  The ground is frozen, so what?  Put on different cleats, man up, and play football.  I played on frozen ground in high school, we slipped around too.  You can't play one game in your professional career that even resembles field conditions from 20 years ago?

I think someone needs to clean the sand out of the vajayjay.

Anyone who thinks that just because he is a punter that he has no business evaluating a field is a total idiot.  Frozen ground is frozen ground (field turf I believe) no matter what position you play.  Oh, they use rubber tire shreds in that field turf, it stays soft and pliable regardless of the temperature ..... pull your heads out you morons!!!

Punter or not, he is not wrong.  Robbie Gould has voice concerns about the field and the possibility of injuries as well.  He is the Union Rep for the Bears which is a position elected by the players.  As far as I'm concered he is looking out for his team mates and not acting like some matcho meatball who has to prove how tough he is by going out and getting himself or others brain injuries.  If there is even a slight risk to the players greater than the risk they face in an average game this should have been moved.  To have it get to this is an embarasment to the NFL and will open them to serious liability should injuries occour.
