Report: Jets Sanchez has tear in right shoulder

Off-the-field, um, issues aside, the Jets may have bigger problems facing them as they try to make another playoff run -- Mark Sanchez reportedly has a slight cartilage tear in his right shoulder, even after undergoing an MRI that revealed "no serious injury" earlier this week.

The injury, however, likely won't keep Sanchez from playing on Sunday against Chicago, according to Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News, who also reports a source who indicates Sanchez will be "fine" for Sunday against the Bears.

"Whether I am [100 percent] or not, I'm in there," Sanchez said. "I'm playing. That's all there is to it. I got to be on the field. That's what I'm here for and that's what I'm going to do."

The Jets have experienced some distractions over the past few days. Although, regardless of the odd nature of the reported foot fetish vids involving head coach Rex Ryan, that's really nothing new for this team.

However, the possibility that Sanchez could be in any way seriously injured is a bit terrifying. Mark Brunell's available as a backup, of course, but given that Ryan didn't bench Sanchez amid a pretty bad slump, it's clear he'd rather stick with his youngster.

Mehta also notes he's been told Sanchez could play the rest of the season and the playoffs "without incident" despite the injury, but an ideal scenario would involve the Jets giving him as much rest as possible.

@ JSL1016

Point taken, my man, but you can't discredit the coaching without spreading some of it to Sanchez.  I agree that during "crunch" time, Sanchez made some of the throws that had to be made, but he didn't make the throws for the first 50 minutes of the game.  Getting back to my point, should the Jets have even been in a position to "come back" against Houston and Detroit (with a combined 9-19 record)?.  I know what you are saying, and I know you are a Sanchez fan, but even Schaub makes it happen when his team is being killed (Baltimore game).  Sanchez just simply does not get it done... period.  He got Holmes back and for a couple of games it mattered, but since, it hasn't.

Leadership is what your teammates say it is, and thus far, he doesn't have it.  He may be a top 10 QB some day, but that day has yet to come.  However, if you have faith in him, stick with it.  I had faith in Drew when he was at Purdue and look how that worked out (he won a Superbowl last year)!

NFL teams have to report injuries.  Of course they would want to keep it secret from other teams.  However, the reason it is reported is for legal gambling on games.  If they did not report injuries, only those with access to inside information would know and this would give them a distinct advantage in point spreads, etc.

It's called an injury report, dope. You know, that thing that Belichek puts half the roster, including Brady on, every single week? If they don't disclose it, they run the risk of having people like you call them idiots for trotting Sanchez out there with an injury like the Favre-accusations a few years ago.

Then do not disclose the injury.  Personally I think Jets are just putting it out there for an excuse for dirty sanchez's bad play.  There is simply, no excuse!

So you guys are saying the bears suck because they beat teams they should have?  Maybe lucky opportunities but are winning the games they are suppose too.  The bears have also beaten the Eagles pretty easily along with the Packers earlier in the year.  Which if I remember right shut out your Jets at there stadium!  Also at the time in week 2 Bears took the Cowboys down who many picked to win it all, things have changed but at the time they were a lot better than they are now.  Jets were also blown out by the Patriots and you are a divison rival.  Pathetic.  Bears are division champs when was the last time your precious Jets could say that?  Bears have won the divison 3 out of the last 6 years.  We also went to a Super Bowl granted me lost but the Jets? It's been awhile since you have been anywhere near a championship.  Maybe Joe Namath who is like 80 years old. You better pray Pennington comes back with his weak arm.   Cutler is having a good year probably a better year than Sanchez will ever have. Cutler stats: 89.6 rating, 20 td's 11 picks and over 2800 yards.  Sanchez stats: 74.6 16 tds and 12 picks with 3000 yards. Forte is averging over 4 a carry.
