A lot of speculation bubbled up last week that Bill Cowher (who happens to work for CBS' Sports) had a "wish list" of teams he wanted to coach.

The three teams on the list -- the Giants, Dolphins and Texans -- all have currently-employed coaches, and that fueled more speculation as to why Cowher (or someone associated with him) would leak the info with those teams' respective coaches clinging to their gigs.

On Sunday, Cowher addressed the issue at the start of The NFL Today, stating that he was "insulted" by the report.

"I have too much respect for the profession, I know how hard it is," Cowher said. "I don't wish for anyone to be fired. And for someone to insinuate that I'm doing that right now is disrespectful to them and I'm insulted by it.

I would not do that to the profession and I hope every one of these coaches has an opportunity to come back. I'm not naive enough to say there won't be changes at the end of the year and I'll address that at the end of the year."

Cowher also pointed out that he's got "a pretty good team" with CBS who happens to be heading to the playoffs before repeating the point that he was insulted by the report.

What made the "leaked list" so surprising is that it doesn't fit Cowher's M.O. in the first place -- he'll have plenty of opportunities to coach teams in the NFL and doesn't likely need to let a team with a soon-to-be-fired head coach know in advance that he's interested.

Cowher should be insulted and disrespected for some of his comments regarding teams with possible coaching position changes.
It seems to me that he made comments insulting some of the coaches in the profession and perhaps looking to make them look
bad to help him look better. Perhaps those who may want to return to the profession should refrain from taking jobs (like on CBS Sports) and then use that position to position himself for a job back in coaching!

Cowher was a good coach and worked hard.  And ethical.  That seems to be a diminishing characteristic in pro sports these days.  He left the 'Burg on his own terms to spend time with family. If he decides to come back to coach, he'll make any team play-off contenders.  And billstav or whatever your name is, you are right up there with all the Oakland fans that still complain...  Whiners.

This, of course, means unequivocally that he has had conversations with all those teams and will coach one of them or another unnamed team next year. Mething you protest too much, Sir William.

I don't know how good of a coach Cowher is. It seems he under-acheived with some talented Steeler teams. The one thing I know is he has never been a GM and I don't think he had much say in the players that were on the Steelers. He sounds like he is going to want full control and that's a big jump for a guy who hasn't done it before.

forget who is cowher...who are you, billstav ? what have you done ?  (Seattle clearly won Superbowl XL  although Cowher was given the trophy by the refs) sounds like a jealous rant. if you think it is so horrible that Bill Cowher has a voice, how about Deion Sanders, Michael Irvin or Matt Millen ? Grow up billstav...stop hating...

You're amazingly dumb.  As the Steelers coach he ran a very impressive program for over a decade including the Superbowl you claim the Seahawks won for some strange reason.  Any team would be happy to have a decade of relavance with many different QB's, two Superbowl appearances and a title.
