A lot of speculation bubbled up last week that Bill Cowher (who happens to work for CBS' Sports) had a "wish list" of teams he wanted to coach.

The three teams on the list -- the Giants, Dolphins and Texans -- all have currently-employed coaches, and that fueled more speculation as to why Cowher (or someone associated with him) would leak the info with those teams' respective coaches clinging to their gigs.

On Sunday, Cowher addressed the issue at the start of The NFL Today, stating that he was "insulted" by the report.

"I have too much respect for the profession, I know how hard it is," Cowher said. "I don't wish for anyone to be fired. And for someone to insinuate that I'm doing that right now is disrespectful to them and I'm insulted by it.

I would not do that to the profession and I hope every one of these coaches has an opportunity to come back. I'm not naive enough to say there won't be changes at the end of the year and I'll address that at the end of the year."

Cowher also pointed out that he's got "a pretty good team" with CBS who happens to be heading to the playoffs before repeating the point that he was insulted by the report.

What made the "leaked list" so surprising is that it doesn't fit Cowher's M.O. in the first place -- he'll have plenty of opportunities to coach teams in the NFL and doesn't likely need to let a team with a soon-to-be-fired head coach know in advance that he's interested.

Cowher 'insulted' by 'disrespectful' coach rumors

Davido You must be a long time Steeler fan. So am I.

I understand the frustration we all felt when the Steelers should have made the Superbowl so many times we thought.

I also see how the Rooneys tend to find guys who most people didn't give the time of day. There were many players who did good in the Steelers system but couldn't do anything anywhere else. Like Lloyd, Stewart, and Fu.

I also think the fact Cowher was able to win a division title O'Donnel is worth the HOF itself. He stunk almost as bad as Brister.

What makes sense about your statement is that some players who should have won a Super Bowl with the steelers and didn't but will likely still make the HOF. Players Like K. Greene and Rod Woodson. Both of whom still consider themselves Steelers. Even though Woodson went to Superbowls with 2 other teams winning 1 of them. Blame the Rooneys.

Cowher and his staff got the most out of a bunch of mediacre players and a few kick ass guys. The one position they have never skimped on is Center.

By the way does anyone else think Pouncey is more deserving of Rookie honors than bradford or any of the other rookies out there? I think he is awsome. Surprised

Cowher is just like Shannahan both over rated !!! If a team wants him they will go down in flames. There are way better choses out there and he isn't worth the money he thinks he is worth . Good luck to the teams that want him hope you get him . I'll take Turner over him or Shannahan any day and I think Turner sucks!!!!!!!!!!

Cowher 'insulted' by 'disrespectful' coach rumors

I would think that show is where his intentions would be made. Not by rumors or leaks. He has the opportunity to talk with any owner in the game if he wanted to.

It must have been a good way to create a story out of nothing. Those fans are probably wishing they had Cowher

yeah and he did it with mike tomzak and kordell stewart at qb. Tell me another coach that has acomplished that same feat. ????? Also did kordell stewart ever play football again after the steelers let him go?? He was like bilichek he gets stuff out of players that no other coach would example danny woodhead.  And you are a steelers fan that one a super bowl with the talent he left there with a rookie qb that did nothing that year. You should be ashamed of yourself.

your obviously a cowboys fan who has no idea what hes talkin about and just wishes cower will coach your team next year. that will never happen because cower wont go to a team that its owner is also the gm with a huge ego and makes all the decisions. look at pitt there owner (the rooneys) stay the heck outa the way and let the gm and head coach run the team. you think jerry is gonna do that i think not. ther is no way cower will ever go to dallas.

I need to qualify my last post - I wish Bill Cowher success with any team he coaches unless it is Cleveland, Cincinatti or Baltimore for obvious reasons.

"It's the other coaches that should be insulted that someone was thinking of replacing them with a bum like Cowher. The guy was a scowling know nothing as a coach that lucked into a bunch of great players and had a tough time winning with them."

What a joke - Bill Cowher won 8 division titles in 15 years. Yes they were only 1 for 2 in superbowls, but Cowher led teams made other teams leery especially if the built any type of lead.

There were a lot of rumors about Cowher, and when he did not get to the superbowl every year, a number of Steeler fans were frustrated. At the end of the day, he will be considered a great coach, and I wish him success in whatever team he ends up with (I an still thinking Da;llas at this point).

Cowher 'insulted' by 'disrespectful' coach rumors

Seems to me he'll end up in Dallas. Jerry Jones is nutty enough to hire him and is desperate for a winning team and an appearance at a SB.  Cowher certainly can tame that horse down in Texas, and what a beautiful place to coach.  All the other stuff is a distraction. He and Jones are buddies.  Cowher loves wearing western gear and has a foot fetish for those real fancy cowboy boots!!

It's the other coaches that should be insulted that someone was thinking of replacing them with a bum like Cowher. The guy was a scowling know nothing as a coach that lucked into a bunch of great players and had a tough time winning with them. Stay where you are at Bill it is the best place for you. Insulted? What a joke. He would take any of those jobs tomorrow if it were offered to him. Insulted? We should be.
