A lot of speculation bubbled up last week that Bill Cowher (who happens to work for CBS' Sports) had a "wish list" of teams he wanted to coach.

The three teams on the list -- the Giants, Dolphins and Texans -- all have currently-employed coaches, and that fueled more speculation as to why Cowher (or someone associated with him) would leak the info with those teams' respective coaches clinging to their gigs.

On Sunday, Cowher addressed the issue at the start of The NFL Today, stating that he was "insulted" by the report.

"I have too much respect for the profession, I know how hard it is," Cowher said. "I don't wish for anyone to be fired. And for someone to insinuate that I'm doing that right now is disrespectful to them and I'm insulted by it.

I would not do that to the profession and I hope every one of these coaches has an opportunity to come back. I'm not naive enough to say there won't be changes at the end of the year and I'll address that at the end of the year."

Cowher also pointed out that he's got "a pretty good team" with CBS who happens to be heading to the playoffs before repeating the point that he was insulted by the report.

What made the "leaked list" so surprising is that it doesn't fit Cowher's M.O. in the first place -- he'll have plenty of opportunities to coach teams in the NFL and doesn't likely need to let a team with a soon-to-be-fired head coach know in advance that he's interested.

Whatever it takes to get Cowher off of CBS!!! he is terrible in his current role with CBS....you can see the look of disgust everytime he speaks written all over the faces of Dan and Boomer....I thought for a minute that Boomer was gonna get up and leave the set last Sunday, and I wouldn't have blamed him having to sit next to that moron Cowher! he is ALMOST as bad as Lou Holtz on ESPN - ssssssheeeshhhhhss.....Cowher's statement about this whole situation was pathetic and an outright LIE on his part - hit the road Bill!

Hey...you forgot to pack the bags of the special teams coach.....that whole segment sucks.  Can't put a kickoff in the endzone. Can't tackle anybody. Can't react to the ball.....gee...did I miss anything?????? I've been a Jints fan for over 50 years, and it's really time for a major change.

Cowher 'insulted' by 'disrespectful' coach rumors

Cowher has nothing to worry about, he is one of best coaches in the nfl. The man can pick any team that he wants, not like a no name who takes a job when it come is way. Cowher is the best!

Cowher 'insulted' by 'disrespectful' coach rumors

I think Cowher might be adding my Niners to his wishlist now that coach Singletary is out. We have a good team in place all we need
is a great coach and a quarterback, plus he likes to run the ball and play defense and we got Frank Gore and a pretty good defense.
Dont forget we play in the weak NFC West and he can help us win the division and make the playoffs every year, he would
be considered a God in San Francisco and to all Niners fans around the world. Big things coming in 2011!

THAT IS SUCH BS.

Notice how he never once denied the report.

The leaked information most likely did not come directly from Bill Cower's mouth, rather that of somebody associated with him, ie a publicist or his agent.  I'm quite certain Cower knew of the strategy beforehand and was prepared to perform some 'on air damage control'... it's PR 101.   This whole thing was so rehearsed... I wonder how many takes they did in the studio before getting it 'right.'

Even with the 'disrespect' issue out there, leaking the information plays well for Cower b/c the 3 teams on his wish list have him in the back of his mind and will think twice before offering any extensions to their current coaches.   Further, Miami and NYG were still contending for playoff spots when the story leaked... if either of those teams made a late push and secured a playoff spot, it would be a more difficult to fire their coaches, especially in Miami's case.  But by leaking this information last week, Cower has essentially told those teams "however the season plays out, playoffs or not, i'm interested in working for you next year.  SO DON'T OFFER ANY EXTENSIONS UNTIL WE TALK!!"

All of that said, is it disrespectful?  Yeah, a little bit.  But that's business...

There is no way Cowher ever coaches for Jerry Jones. Cowher wants more control than Jones would ever be willing to give up.
