R. Meachem (US Presswire)
Saints wide receiver Robert Meachem is expected to be okay after getting hurt in a collision with a photographer on the field after the Saints’ win at Atlanta Monday night. Meachem had just had a 100-yard game and had to be carried off.
Sean Payton was not at all please with the situation.

"I heard about it," Payton said, according to Nakia Hogan of Nola.com. "I think he's going to be fine. You can make any type of light of it that you want but there's an issue though. I have an issue when there's free rain.

"You guys recall the preseason game in where the Titans mascot ran over our quarterback in our first preseason game in '06. The guy running around on the four-wheeler who has no restrictions at all and rolls up the back of the punt returner at that time, our quarterback Adrian McPherson. So everyone wants the picture; everyone wants the shot. You have a guy that's backing up and falling over a player and I have an issue with that. I think he's going to be fine. He got treatment today and we'll see where he's at."

Nice reporting  and editing-- (1) no mention of how specifically the injury occured and (2) it is not "free rain", the phrase is "free reign", free rain makes absolutely no sense.

So does anybody actually know how he got hurt?  I mean, this article certainly didn't bother to mention how the accident happened, just that they were giving out free rain at the game.  How does an NFL receiver get hurt "in a collision" with a photographer after the game is over?

Oh by the way Sean, the reason you and your players make millions a year is because of the media.  Get used to them being around, or else go volunteer to coach junior high football somewhere and you won't have to worry about your players getting hurt by those brutal photographers.

As for the Titans mascot on the 4-wheeler... I'll give you that one.  That was ridiculous.  It's happened a few times at other games, too.

Are you people really that miserable that you have nothing more to do than harp on a guy for a silly spelling error?  Maybe it's jealousy from him actually contributing to the site while your replies are nothing more than the hundreds of tiny print at the bottom.

We're getting a little distracted by a silly typo--nevertheless, "free rein" is correct.  Giving free rein is an equestrian phrase for giving your horse the freedom to move without guidance or restriction.  Although "free reign" would also make sense (and has a similar meaning), it is not the origin of the metaphor.

Actually I think it's "free rein."   Rein, as a horse or other animal with the bit in its teeth, given free rein to go wherever it wants.
It's reign...reign=rule, freedom to decide

What rain was that? Doesn't Atlanta play in a dome?

I was under the impression that rain is indeed free. At least I've never had to pay for it before.....

"I have an issue when there's free rain"

That would be free "reign" not "rain".

Watch those typos.
