Report: Gators pursuing KC's Weis as OC

Earlier, we mentioned that there were rumors floating that the Florida Gators would be interested in Kansas City offensive coordinator Charlie Weis.

This speculation stemmed from the fact that Pat Dooley of the Gainesville Sun mentioned the rumor on his radio show, and Chris Mortensen of ESPN reported the possibility on Sunday.

Now Mort's reporting the possibility of Weis heading to Gainesville to join Will Muschamp's coaching staff is "likely" and that Muschamp, who wants a pro-style offensive coordinator for his system, contacted the Chiefs for permission to speak with Weis.

Todd Haley was asked about the rumors at his press conference on Friday.

"It would be news to me," Haley said.

But, as Kent Babb of the Kansas City Star points out, Haley certainly didn't deny any of the rumors either.

It seems, then, fairly likely that this is a move that will happen (or at least come close to happening), although Weis isn't expected to bounce from KC until after the Chiefs are done in the playoffs.

For those wondering why Weis would make such a move -- common sense dictates that moving as an OC in the NFL to an OC in college isn't even a lateral jump -- well, it would seem that perhaps Weis and Haley weren't working together perfectly and perhaps Weis sensed that the organization was taking a strong look at Josh McDaniels to replace him. McDaniels, after all, got the most out of Cassel when he ran the Patriots offense in 2008.

But then folks will also remember that McDaniels and Haley had a handshake incident this year, so perhaps that's not the greatest marriage either. Not to mention with the Chiefs coming off an AFC West championship, they'd be "messing with happy," and that's almost never smart.

owlstj, way to represent the Chiefs fans in a very unclassy manner!  Let's see how much you are talking after the first week or two of the playoffs.  You Chief fans are so bitter about never winning that you just can't let it go.  Your day will eventually come, I think, but until then have some class until it does!

Hey tres, your Dolts will be hitting a rough stretch for the next few years as cellar dwellers. You guys got a good one in Ryan Matthews,,,good for nothing! HAHAHAHAHAHA!!  Everyone of you twerps were hanging off his balls at the beginning of the season and how many games did he play? How many yards did he run? Whoo hooo!! I can't stop laughing at that one!!

Antonio Gates is getting more fragile by the day. I heard his feet looked like two big open sores, maybe it's a good thing you all were AFC West runners-up to the Chiefs so the poor guy can heal his feet.

Ol' Blockhead Rivers as well as the entire offense ain't gettin any younger. Rivers is going to need a special prosthetic helmet soon if his head gets any bigger and more blocky. Your best wide receiver is a greedy little turd that can't stay out of trouble and ends up suspended more than he plays.

Oh, and one more thing, good job CHOKING AGAIN this time by losing to the lowly Bungles. HAHAHAHAHAHA!! That's almost as funny as Ryan Matthews' season.

Several things to think about here:

1.  As much as I would like to see Weis stay with the Chiefs, maybe he prefers the college game now and the shorter hours.  Not as much burning the old midnight oil.

2.  Maybe Charlie sees this as a step back to being a college HC again.  Again, maybe he likes that better.

3.  Maybe all this is pointless BS rumors.  Mort isn't exactly always right you know.  Sometimes he just slings mud against the wall and hopes some of it sticks.

4.  Maybe Haley is allowing the Gators to talk to Weis but nothing will happen.

5.  There are some rumors that Josh McDaniel might be asked to join the Chiefs as a QB coach.  Again, nothing of substance here as of yet.  No JM sightings at KCI.  No black helicopters near Arrowhead (those haven't been sighted nearby since Carl Peterson left).

6.  Finally, as a Chiefs fan, why is it that everytime we make the playoffs and win the West, we get coordinator rumors.  One year it was Greg Robinson on the hot seat and about to lose his job (I know that name strikes terror into Syracuse fans).  Another time it was OC Paul Hackett leaving for USC during the 97 playoffs.  Hopefully this won't screw up KC's playoff game.  I've got my tickets and am psyched to see us in the playoffs at home.

Just some things to think about.  I guess it's better to have this problem than to be total scrubs and having no one on the staff attractive to anyone.  We know that feeling in these parts.  Good luck to Charlie whatever he decides to do.

Report: Gators pursuing KC's Weis as OC

Anyone who saw what Charlie did with the offense with the Pats and who actually knows football will appreciate what he has done.
Sure he didn't do as well at ND as he or most alums would have liked but it was his first HC gig and to do it at a program with such lofty expectations not just from Irish faithful but even from the haters out there just added to it all.
I hope he stays with the Chiefs, I think he took a moribund offense and really turned it into a unit that could be relied upon to put points up on the board plus staying in the NFL is what is going to give him bigger and better opportunities as opposed to being an OC with a college program even a top flight one like the gators.
He has done well, he has Scott Pioli's ear as far as personnel goes and they've begun to build something in KC that is ONLY going to get BETTER!
The people who say he sucks don't know football, don't know that he took on way too much and truth be told had he been able to just focus on the offense instead of everything else he did at the program then they would've done better.
I really wanted him back with the Pats but going to work with Romeo & Pioli at Patriots Midwest was a good move for him.
Stay in KC Charlie, build that offense into an even stronger unit and quiet all these know nothing noise makers out here!
Oh yeah and one more thing: "GO PATS!
