Report: Gators pursuing KC's Weis as OC

Earlier, we mentioned that there were rumors floating that the Florida Gators would be interested in Kansas City offensive coordinator Charlie Weis.

This speculation stemmed from the fact that Pat Dooley of the Gainesville Sun mentioned the rumor on his radio show, and Chris Mortensen of ESPN reported the possibility on Sunday.

Now Mort's reporting the possibility of Weis heading to Gainesville to join Will Muschamp's coaching staff is "likely" and that Muschamp, who wants a pro-style offensive coordinator for his system, contacted the Chiefs for permission to speak with Weis.

Todd Haley was asked about the rumors at his press conference on Friday.

"It would be news to me," Haley said.

But, as Kent Babb of the Kansas City Star points out, Haley certainly didn't deny any of the rumors either.

It seems, then, fairly likely that this is a move that will happen (or at least come close to happening), although Weis isn't expected to bounce from KC until after the Chiefs are done in the playoffs.

For those wondering why Weis would make such a move -- common sense dictates that moving as an OC in the NFL to an OC in college isn't even a lateral jump -- well, it would seem that perhaps Weis and Haley weren't working together perfectly and perhaps Weis sensed that the organization was taking a strong look at Josh McDaniels to replace him. McDaniels, after all, got the most out of Cassel when he ran the Patriots offense in 2008.

But then folks will also remember that McDaniels and Haley had a handshake incident this year, so perhaps that's not the greatest marriage either. Not to mention with the Chiefs coming off an AFC West championship, they'd be "messing with happy," and that's almost never smart.

Report: Gators pursuing KC's Weis as OC

I suspect this happens after the Chiefs lose because they ran TJ into the Jets D-line 20 times for no gain while Jamaal Charles gets 10 touches for a 7 ypc.  I know the Jets won't score in the 1st quarter, so this dumb strategy won't actually lose the game right away, but eventually the Jets will start scoring and the Chiefs will have screwed up a good chance at winning.

I dont care who KC has played when you could end up 11-5, #1 in the NFL in Rushing, have  the 4th rated QB in the NFL, 2nd in the NFL in sacks allowed, #1 in not turning the ball over,  and undefeated at home holding the opponeets to a NFL low 12 points( next closeest is 19 points) ... they have turned it around.  They really should have 13 wins this year, a bogus call in Housotn and a dropped pass to end the game in Oakland cost them 2 games...  People talk about the how great the jets are and they ahve only beaten 2 teams with a winning record.....

Erbody talking about how the Chiefs have turned it around this year but who have they played?

Chiefs:  overall schedule thru week 15 opponents records are 91-134 a .404 winning percentage

;      SOV (the records of the teams from their 10 wins) is 58-92 a .387 winning percentage

;      they have played 3 teams with winning records Ind 9-6, SD 8-7, and Jax 8-7

;     &nbs
p;they have played 2 games against playoff caliber teams Ind or Jax and the NFC West winner.

I guess they have turned it around playing against teams with losing records.

NOt really a big deal, I wasnt to impressed with KC offensive calls this year ... KC has a great running game but they have been sumber #1 since Charles took pver and that was before Weis. Also, Haley is working with Cassel now, not Weis. As a KC fan Im not to worried one way or another... you have Pioli and he is the mastermind, and Romeo is the guy we cant lose.... and Haley has been great as Head coach. . Actauly Im kinda ecited if we bring in McDaniels as OC... he was great in NE but just sucked as HC... kinda like Weis.

If weiss is hired by the gators, he may get the good recruits like he did at nd, but will he be able to develop them better than he did in south bend?

I hope the Gators don't hire Charlie Weis.  His offenses were lackluster at Notre Dame.  Jeremy Foley and Will Muschamp keep talking about "good fits" for Florida, but Wies is not one of them.
