It's pretty hard to believe that the Raiders went undefeated in their division and still missed the playoffs, but it happened. After Oakland manhandled Kansas City on Sunday , they finished 6-0 in the AFC West and still on the outside looking in for the playoffs.

Such a record has to be considered a success for a Raiders team that seemed headed for an early draft pick, and therefore, you'd think Tom Cable's job is safe.

But maybe not -- Adam Schefter of ESPN reported on Sunday that Cable is "unlikely" to return as the head coach of Oakland in 2011.

As Michael David Smith notes at Pro Football Talk , the Raiders and Schefter aren't exactly BFFs. They called him a "false rumor monger" when he reported they would fire Art Shell, shortly before they fired Art Shell.

Cable's done a more-than-capable job of helping to turn the Raiders around over the past season, but if Schefter's report is true, it still wasn't a worthy enough job for Al Davis, who probably perceived this squad as a playoff team.

And, because it's Al Davis we're talking about, there's little-to-no guarantee that Cable will safely retain his gig simply by beating all his biggest rivals twice each in one season.

Al davis is one of the worst owners in the history of the game.. i wish the nfl would take his team awayfrom him.. he has had more coaches in the past 5 years then he has had players.. well of course not but sounded good. point blank he spends money where it dont need to be. okay u have seymour and that corner i cant spell his name. on defense. on offense u have miller and mcfadden... YOU NEED A QB!!!!!!!! FUCK A COACH GET A SYSTEM THAT LASTS MORE THEN 2 YEARS AND A QB THAT AINT 50 LBS OVERWEIGHT EVERY YEAR!!! AL DAVIS NEEDS TO DIE

Mark wilson is going to be pushing around his brain like an IV in a jar full of liquid and a jump suit on the galss making deceisions and wondering who is the no armed guy that is the fastest at the combine as a potential wide receiver. In all fairness, no one the raiders more than Mr. Burns!!!!!

and this is why i have turned in my Raider membership card. this guy (cable) did as good a job as possible with no real QB. and frankly, after back to back 5-11's, beating the broncos, chiefs and chargers twice in a season is good enough for me. Al has to give it up. cable will find a home, good job Tom

It is a hard call. After having the fortune and misfortune of being a Raider fan, It was nice to see the Raiders actually play with some heart and no give up which has not been done in 8 years, regardless of the Record. I go to every Raider game home and away ( no, face is not painted and i spikes are not out of shoulder pads) and they had a different moxy this year. Confident, tough. 2nd in the league in rushing doubled their out put in points last year. That is equal to not going to the prom and then going by yourself the following year but it is steps. Campbell, did not start playing well until he got benched and could watch from the sidelines, went undefeated in the division where last two years they have won 3 games. Progress is being made and like every other team in the playoffs most coaches have had time to install there system. I say remove your self from Je marcus Russel raiders for 3 years and then see how you are doing. My opinion is see if 8 wins this year is 10 or 11 next year. Because with a new coach and offensive coordinator (8) in 8 years for jason cambell is not the quick answer. Mcfadded and bush played great, Jacoby ford was a pleasant suprise, with a good tight end , improving defense actually stated stopping the run a little. Maybe. I am not sure what division thye play next year, probably the NFC East. then great back to 5 wins!

This is the best the Raiders have looked since 2002.
