Report: Harbaugh unlikely to take Michigan gig

Sure, it seems like we've been talking a lot about Jim Harbaugh these days, but he's so damn hot right now. And given his refusal to speak about future jobs on Monday night, it sure does seem like he's not hanging around Stanford (at least he's not lying about staying though).

However, the Detroit Free Press now reports that Harbaugh is "highly unlikely" to accept the job at Michigan. That means one of two things: he's either coming back to Stanford or he's heading to one of five NFL teams who desperately covet him.

This would mean, based on what we think we saw last night, that Harbaugh is headed to the NFL. The timing would be perfect, too. A slew of teams --the Broncos (John Elway, Stanford alum, now runs things), the 49ers (Harbaugh and likely GM Baalki share an agent), the Raiders (Harbaugh and Al Davis are boys somehow), and the Panthers (he'd probably get to coach Andrew Luck again) -- all stand out as viable locations for the hottest name in coaching.

That doesn't include the Dolphins -- who sent a team of "ownership scouts" to the Orange Bowl Monday night, the Browns or the Bengals. (Have we covered everyone sufficiently? If not, check out our coaching tracker for all the latest.)

Anyway, look, Andrew Luck should go pro. He can get too much money and the timing's too right. And Harbaugh should follow suit in jumping ship from Stanford, because, really, there's not a whole lot of room to grow outside of a national championship.

If Michigan's out the window, then it's NFL time.

Time for RR to hit the road.  Don't let the door hit you on the way out.  Good luck to JH if he goes to the nfl.  In all honesty most UM fans would love for him to be the head coach. But the mess the football program is in,.... I don't blame him if he does not come. Anyone but RR !

He turned the job down 3 years ago and yet for some reason people still bring his name up for the Michigan job.  Why if he didnt want it then would he want it now?

Lets talk about Les Miles again while we are at it.  He turned the job down 3 years ago too maybe he now wants it.  LOL.

I have been telling people right from the start that Harbaugh wasnt interested in the job because of his reaction before.  Nothing has changed.  He needs smart players to run his offense.  Michigan doesnt have them.  No matter what you think about the University of Michigan they let in guys that BARELY meet NCAA requirements.  Stanford DOES NOT!

Michigan fans need to get used to Rich Rod cause hes here to stay since Harbaugh doesnt want the job and all the other X U of M coaches turned the job down last time they havent a pot to pi$$ in.

I think that last sentence was meant to say "The SEC ain't gonna cal, so it's NFL time."

HeHateMe, we don't have an offense. We have a 1AA gimmick. It way work against Indiana but it still won't work against Iowa, Michigan State, Ohio State, Nebraska and Wisconsin and Penn State when the play them which won't get Michigan anywhere near nine wins. We have a running back playing QB and nobody behind him except maybe Gardner. Three years in and the offense is still in rebuilding mode. It it time to finish the job and hire a major conference coach that runs a D1A offense and defense and be done with it. Harbaugh is out. I never thought he was in given the toxicity of Michigan football but there are plenty of others waiting. We need Les Miles. He may never be more successful than Lloyd Carr but at least he can recruit and what we need now more than ever is to turnover and undo all the damage Rodriguez did to the roster because we can't compete in the Big Ten with a Big East offense and a Patriot League defense.

if the "D"is just average instead of terrible we will be a 8 or 9 win team, getting rid of Richrod now means starting over again. No Thanks.
Don't play that game because there were games when you played teams that played D just as bad as Michigan does... your offense looked real good against soft teams..... don't kid  yourself, Michigan  was much closer to a 5 win team then they were an 8 or 9 win team.

That was a great offensive display against Mississippi State, an average D.

What players are we losing left and right ? We just signed a LB from in state and a DB from MD. Hart was a soft verbal from the get go. we have an Offense. if the "D"is just average instead of terrible we will be a 8 or 9 win team, getting rid of Richrod now means starting over again. No Thanks.

Can't blame him for not wanting to touch that michigan gig with a 20 foot poll after the disaster that is Rich Rod...   couldn't be happier with the poor job he has done given the manner of how he left West Va

If this is true, that sucks! Oh well, start looking elsewhere Michigan, you are already losing recruits left and right with the sitting on your hands attitude. Your best option is gone, just like 3 years ago, lets not make the same mistake twice.
