Lechler is not happy with Raiders organization

Al Davis' decision not to pick up Tom Cable's option was not seen well by Oakland P S. Lechler (US Presswire). Posted by Josh Katzowitz

On Tuesday, we told you about the, um, interesting decision by owner Al Davis not to renew the option of Raiders coach Tom Cable, casting him into unemployment instead of rewarding him for the team’s best record in eight seasons and a clean sweep of the AFC West.

Now, the fallout begins.

Oakland punter Shane Lechler told CSN Bay Area (via Pro Football Talk) that the decision was a “huge setback” and intimated that it might cause the team’s best players to not want to play for the organization.

“I’m not so sure this isn’t a terrible decision,” Lechler said.

A few other spicy quotes.

On Hue Jackson, the team’s offensive coordinator who now could be in line for Cable’s old job: “Yes, I do respect (Jackson) … Whether he can call plays and pull off the whole head coaching deal and deal with Al Davis on the side, I don’t know.  That’s a lot on somebody’s plate, so we’ll see.”

More on Cable: “I just want to know . . . how do you justify firing somebody when you just went 6-0 in the division and 8-8 in the season after we put in so much as a group, as a unit, as a team with our leader being Tom Cable, how do you just go ahead and whack this guy with, I mean, no reason?”

If anybody can say this in the Raiders organization, it’s Lechler. He’s regarded as the NFL’s finest punter, and if Davis wants to part ways with him because of the above comments, Lechler would have no problem finding a job in the NFL. Hell, maybe that’s exactly Lechler’s plan.

Maybe Lechler’s not just pissed, but maybe he’s also quite brilliant.

And as we all know, pissed and brilliant is a dangerous combination.

Lechler is not happy with Raiders organization

That's precisely the problem, Al Davis has forgotten so much about football. I hate when people say "he's forgotten more than you'll ever know" like it's worth something. The question is who knows more about football now, in 2011, and that's Shane Lechler. Al Davis has forgotten so much about football that now Shane Lechler knows more, so why should Lechler be told to shut up?

Shut up, Lechler.  Al has forgotten more about football than you'll ever know.  Cable lost five games to losing teams and that is unacceptable for an Oakland Raider Head Coach.  See ya, Tom!

Thats the dumbest arguement ive ever heard, you nothing about football, and therefore shouldn't comment.  How does moving to another team suddenly make you not as good??  Lechler LEADS the NFL every year in most punting catagories.  A move to another team will make him better I think.  with any other team, he might have a shot at the playoffs, but it wont effect his ability on the field.  I get that he gets a lot more opportunities with the Raiders, but that doesnt he mean he wont be effective with another team.

Shut up Lechler... stick to your specialist position that only has more respect than the place kicker and let the big boys do the thinking.

Al Davis looks like someone that just got took out of a coffin.  Lol.  I can't even believe he's still running the team.  Him and Mike Brown should work together and they could have the best team ever.  Lol.

I guarantee that if Lechler plays for another team that he won't make the Pro Bowl team.

Uh, why?  We're talking about a punter, not a QB, WR or RB.  Why, if he went to another team, especially a "contender", do you think Lechler would suddenly be unable to punt the football?  His leg would be weaker in Dallas, San Diego, Pittsburg or any other city other than Oakland?  The only thing that would decrease Lechler's numbers is playing for a better team that gains more yards (more short punts inside the 20 instead of booming away) and/or scores more points (fewer punting opportunities)...I guess weather could affect the numbers some too --more games in windy, cold conditions for example could lead to some shorter punts I suppose.  Overall though, sorry, if you can punt in Oakland you can punt for any team.  Punter is probably the position least affected by the quality of your teammates.
