J. Fox (US Presswire)
On Friday it was learned that former Panthers head coach John Fox is among the small handful of head coaching candidates in Denver. But if Fox does not get the job, or any head coaching job, what will he do?

An idea being tossed around by the New York media is Fox returning to his old Giants defensive coordinator job in 2011. This idea is partly influenced by the fact that current Giants D coordinator Perry Fewell has been interviewing for head coaching positions – including Carolina’s. That got some saying, “Hey, what if Fox and Fewell simply switched places?”

Paul Schwartz of the New York Post lays out the best argument for Fox returning to the Big Apple (or New Jersey, depending on your outlook):

Fox certainly will be considered for head-coaching openings around the league but he might get shut out. Accepting a coordinator position might be his only way to stay in the league in 2011. He ran the Giants defense from 1997-2001 and continues to have great support in the Giants' upper management and ownership. Given that Coughlin will be 65 by the start of this coming season, Fox could view this is a chance to put in his time and perhaps replace Coughlin after he retires.

Could John Fox return to New York?

Pleas, don't be haters , Dallas will turn it around next season. Besides tell me what is the difference if the team goes 6-10 or 10-6 if they both are not invited into the playoff tournament. well please do not dilut yourselves in thinking that their is a diffence. when if fact teams that get close then fall way off and then the changes are made that team comes back the following years and win superbowls. especially when u look at the history and bravo of the great franchise of the dallas cowboys.  go cowboys. dallsa will land a good defensive coordinator, ron rivera, john fox, nolan, jerry jones will throw some dough at them ,,,, u cant keep a good man and team such as the cowboys down

Spoken like a true moron Cowboy fan!  Pittsburg fans typically have more class than to spout that kind of garbage.

It makes perfect sense that if Fewell gets hired as a HC that Fox would go back. Any team in the league would be ecstatic to have Fox as an assistant. One of the last members of the great Chuck Noll's coaching tree, he will be a head coach again and it won't be too far away.

Hey G-ladies, before you go spouting off about the '07 Superbowl, be sure to ask yourself which teams have MORE than 3 SB titles. Easy question, as there are ONLY THREE OF THEM, and NONE of them have NY in their name...Pittsburgh with 6 & SF & Dallas with FIVE each! G-gurls have 3, just like the Redskins & Patriots, although I believe the Patriots will add to their total this year. Oh yeah, so they don't start whining, I believe the Fudge Packers have 3 also....

Wow, dude are you REALLY that dumb? Considering that the Giants went 10-6 and your bunch of pantywaist scrubs went 6-10 including an EMBARASSING 2-6 in your own house, you think you'd be smarter than that.

I guess not though.
