R. Morris (US Presswire)
At this time last year, people were talking about who the Buccaneers would give Raheem Morris’ coaching job to (Bill Cowher was the hot name). Now, per Roy Cummings of the Tampa Tribune, the 34-year-old apple from the Dungy Tree has the kind of job security that other NFL head coaches in Florida can only dream of.

Morris signed a two-year extension that pays him $2 million per season. According to Cummings, “a series of playoff-related incentive clauses allow Morris to nearly double that payout over the two-year lifetime of the agreement.”

It is believed the Bucs are working on a similar deal for general manager Mark Dominik.

He earned it. He has a good philosophy too, and great, young talent on both sides of the ball. A progressive front-office helps too. A 2 year extension is fine bc it works for everybody...Bucs aren't on the hook with a shatty coach for 4yrs, and next year is still basically a 'Re-up' year for morris too. Noone ever really goes into the last year of a contract these days with no extension offer, especially if he's an apparent keeper.

Next contract is the big one though especially if they go a beyond first round of playoffs, which they look ready to do IMHO. Bucs are ready to leap past the Saints...btw the entire league has the blueprint on Drew Brees now...look out 4 the BUCS! I might hop back on the Bucs bus...hopped on with Sapp and off it after Gruden F'd up the squad.

SO YOUR SAYING THE TITANS SHOULVE KEPT VINCE AND FIRED FISHER. IT WAS FREEMAN'S SECOND YEAR IN THE NFL, YOUR SAYING THAT IF HE DIDNT DEVELOPE AS QUICK AS HE DID RAHEEM WOULD HAVE BEEN OUT OF A JOB? I THINK FREEMAN SHOULD BE GETTING HIS COACH AND GM A CHRISTMAS PRESENT FOR NOT BRINGING IN A VETERAN QB TO START AND MAKE HIM SIT THE BENCH AND LEARN AND FOR BELEIVING IN HIM AND PUTTING THEIR JOBS ON THE LINE FOR A SECOND YEAR QB IN THE NFL

i can understand that. can't wait till next years schedule. should be tougher and we beat the more "elite" teams we will see what the critics will have to say then. but we have to show up and not keep the score close so the refs won't decide the winner of these close games.

2 million. that's all. he shouldve been coach of the year if it weren't for that blown call against the lions. i guess he'll have to win the superbowl to get that award now. 3-13 to 10-6 and the youngest team in the nfl. c'mone man

That's not really a flattering extension, but an extension nonetheless. They saw enough of Morris to say that he can do great things with this team. At the same time, they want to make sure this wasn't just a fluke year and that Morris is the right guy to take them to the Superbowl.
