Jets-Pats III promises to build on great playoffs

Peyton Manning marched down the field and Adam Vinatieri kicked a clutch 50-yard field goal to put the Colts up two points with 53 seconds left and a somewhat shaky Mark Sanchez needing to march the field for the Jets to win.

You'd think that would have been the end of that, but, somehow, Antonio Cromartie broke a big return, Braylon Edwards made a big catch, Sanchez hit some big throws and Rex Ryan finally got the Manning version of a monkey off his back.

There will be obligatory columns about Peyton Manning's legacy: after all, he's only 9-10 in the postseason. Seven of 11 times since making the playoffs, he's gone one-and-done. He piles up stats, but his team doesn't always win.

"Well I tell you what, it feels awesome, because this is a playoff and we're moving on," Ryan said. "The guy's the best there is and he almost did it to us again coming back, but our offense had to pick up the defense again and that's how we played all year.

It was a dogfight and we knew it would be coming here and playing against Peyton Manning and the Colts. But man, what a great feeling. What an amazing feeling."

Ryan's got bigger things to worry about than beating Peyton, of course -- early reports had the Patriots opening as nine-point favorites against the Jets next week in Foxboro.

Thankfully, because of a cornucopia of storylines, this should be one of the most entertaining weeks in the NFL postseason in a while.

Rex Ryan's Foot Fetish still looms (although if anyone wasn't going to talk about it, it's the Patriots). Ryan complained about the Pats running up the score after that recent game.

Recently, he said that Peyton Manning prepares a lot more than Tom Brady. Because, you know, there wasn't already enough reason for the Jets and Pats to really hate each other.

Fortunately, Mark Sanchez actually seemed to take a leap during the second half, meaning Bill Belichick won't completely confound the Jets' offense; whatever simplifications of the playbook Ryan and offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer busted out worked brilliantly. In the first half, Sanchez looked completely lost and/or injured, as he made a critical goal-line interception and consistently overthrew receivers.

"You gotta tip our hat to our offense -- it was unbelievable," Ryan said about the halftime adjustments. "We totally dominated the second half offensively and on defense we had to hold serve. It was one of those things against Peyton where you're never going to stop him completely but our guys played well enough to get it done and keep him out of the end zone and our offense was just spectacular."

Of course, Sanchez didn't "dominate," but he only threw three incompletions in the second half. That's not as amazing when you consider how much the Jets pounded the ball, consistently piling up yardage, melting the clock, keeping the ball out of Manning's hands and doing what they do best: ground-and-pound.

That simplistic style of football won't be the basis for a ridiculous over-hyped week of media discussion about Jets-Pats III (a treat even though Manning's out of the playoffs and seeing he and Brady square off is always fun), but if Ryan's crew can keep balling the way they did in the second half Saturday, the football will be as entertaining as the sideshow.

Jets-Pats III promises to build on great playoffs

Please explain how the Jets suck?

2009 - Rex comes in (rookie HC) and drafts a rookie QB in Sanchez. Team goes 9-7 enters the playoffs as and then beat the Bengels and Chargers on the road. Then come within 30 mins of a SB appearence.

2010 - Year 2 for Rex and Sanchez. Team goes 11-5 in season (2 game improvement) and made some questionable moves before the season for some high risk/high reward players. They then go into Indy and beat the Colts

Thats 20-12 and 3-1 in the playoffs in 2 seasons! Not signs of a "joke" franchise to me. Those are signs of a Franchise on the rise

Jets-Pats III promises to build on great playoffs

"All time, 103 games played against each other the Jets have won 51.  The Pats have won 51.  And they have 1 tie"

What the heck to the 103 games they have played in the history have to do with anything. All I know is the Patriots this year are the better team.

Mark Sanchez has played in Foxborough against Bill Belechik twice in his career. He has thrown 54 passes with 7 Interceptions with a low 30's passer rating. In his first time in Foxboro the Pats won 31-14,  Sanchez went 8-21 with 4 Int and 1 td and 136 yards. The Second matchup for Sanchez in Foxboro we all remember in week 13 when Sanchez went 17-33 with 0 td's and 3 INT's amd threw for 164 yds.

People who keep saying the Jets beat the Patriots in week 2 are just trying to convince themselves the Jets have a better chance than they really do. Do they have a chance, Yes, its the NFL but bringing up week 2 in the meadowlands does not mean a thing. The Patriots are not the Colts and Peyton Manning this year is not Tom Brady. You can say that the Jets could use the same formula they used against the Colts and Manning but the fact is that the Last 2 trips to Foxboro the Jets have ran the ball well and that did not matter. In 2009 in foxboro Shone Green had ove 100 yds rushing and in 2010 week 13 the Jets Rushed for 152 Yds and the time of possesion was almost equal with the Patriots holding the ball for 31 minutes and the Jets 29.

The way the Jets have to beat the Pats in my opinion would be to force Tom Brady into turnovers. I do mean force too because he is not Mark Sanchez and will not make many if any at all un-forced errors. I do not see the Jets ability to put pressure on Brady causing bad throws, strip sacks or any INT's. The Patriots simply are twice the team the Colts are and the Colts easily could have won that game. Its going to take more than a "Herculian" effort to beat these Patriots. It will take both the effort of the Jets and a collapse of Patriots.

Its the NFL and anything can happen but If you do not think the last game is stuck in the Jets minds in a bad way just rememeber they will be taking the same trip to foxboro, getting dressed in te same Locker room and playing in fromt of the same crowd where they were "whupped" in Calvin Paces opinion. I do not think the Jets are happy with a chance for revenege against the Patriots, of course they are happy they are still in the Playoffs but I can guarantee that Rex would rather race 1 of the other 2 teams rememaing and most his players are thinking the same thing even if there not saying it.

The thought of facing the Patriots a third time this season, which wil come this week in the divisional round of the p[layoffs, is not so appealing to the Jets.    " The way we played, I don’t think we want to see them again,” linebacker Calvin Pace admitted. “45-3? That’s a (butt) kicking. I’m not trying to be funny.”

I am not saying the Jets are a bad team or hey no chance but if both teams play to there ability the Patriots will have no trouble coming away with the win. Nothings a guarantee and I am hoping for a good game, not really, a good game to me would a repeat of the last time they met. I know that is very inlikely to happen but I am very confident the Patriots walk away with a trip to the AFC championship game.

Jets-Pats III promises to build on great playoffs

If the Jets. lead by one of the most inaccurate  passers in Sanchez go into Foxborough in Janaury and beat the Patriots and Tom Brady . The same Brady - especially after Rex Ryan's comments about Brady unable to read defenses and make decisions etc. it will also be a day when the temperature hits 80 in January for the game. Sorry Jets fans but a Patriots team that has an extra week to prepare will not let this happen.

Jets-Pats III promises to build on great playoffs

It has been so nice to be a Pats fan the last ten years. Now ten more years of being the top team to beat. Has any other team played on top for 20 yrs ?

Jets-Pats III promises to build on great playoffs

I love all of you Pats fans.  Yeah, the Pats beat the Jets badly the last time they played, but the Jets also beat the Patriots earlier this season.

All time, 103 games played against each other the Jets have won 51.  The Pats have won 51.  And they have 1 tie.

So take it easy Patriots fans.  We all know you all have "city envy" and wish you were New York.

I hope to read all of your posts next week should the Jets win.   If the Jets win it will surely be because of a bad call by the refs or someone got hurt or the Jets got lucky.  Not because the Jets KICKED the Patriots' asses.

Jets-Pats III promises to build on great playoffs

If the Jets and Ravens win next week (provided the Ravens beat the Chiefs, which is pretty likely) that'd be a nice dynamic with the teams having opened the season against each other.  It would also completely signal a changing of the guard.  Well, at least in terms of the Steelers and Colts no longer being the top teams.  I believe at least one of the Jets and Ravens will advance, but probably not both

Changing of the Guard, what is up with all the Brilliant analysis this morning. Is Tom Brady going somewhere next year. Is the team loaded with picks next draft with 3 of the first 33 picks going to NE. Even without the picks they have they have the 2nd youngest team in the NFL and the current team has the best record in footbal and had one of if not the toughest schedules in Footbal, There strngth of Victory was definately number 1. The scary thing about the Pats is that they look like they could be better than they have ever been the next couple years.

The Jets do have a young QB but that teams is pretty old and they will have to go crazy in the off season to bring back another playoff team. I know that this is the NFL and the game realistically could go either way but I think the only way the Patriots lose is if they beat themsleves by making a bunch of mistakes. The Patriots have proven themselves over and over agin this year in games that were built up as huge games. Like the monday night Jets/pats, the Pats Steelers game, the Pats/ bears game and also the colts the ravens and packers. During the Pats last run of wins they put absolute beatings on the Steelers, the Jets and the Bears and I do not see Bill Belechik and Brady letting this team have a let down game.

I am hoping for a great game and a Pats win but the Pats will have to bring there A game especially if the Jets bring theres.

Jets-Pats III promises to build on great playoffs

The Pats will win next week.  The big question is, how many times Ryan will add more fuel to the fire.  Talk about an idiot, he will be their undoing.  That crap last week about Brady should be enough, but Rex can't help himself.  He must have the I.Q. of a rock.

Jets-Pats III promises to build on great playoffs

Yeah, billyho412— Gronk and Hernandez showboat way more than say, Braylon or Holmes (can’t remember which, they’re both idiots) who was nearly called for taunting penalties on consecutive touchdowns against New England.

I'm guessing the “even when they continue to test positive” remark was in regards to Brandon Spikes taking ADHD meds. Those Patriots are really rotten to the core.

I understand Spygate remarks are obligatory but your fat blowhard of a coach isn’t fit to carry “Belicheat's" socks, although I'm sure he'd like to.

And what do you mean by saying “when he has acted very questionably in his personal life” about Brady? I don’t recall him having 9 kids with 8 different women and needing an advance from the Jets upon signing to pay his child support like Cromartie.

Some teams' shite stinks worse than others so I wouldn't go throwing it around so freely if I were a Jet fan.

Jets-Pats III promises to build on great playoffs

n when he has received the biggest fine in the history of sports for cheating), and their QB walks on water (even when he has acted very questionably in his personal life)

All you people who say Brady is a bad person because of his personal like are flat out either greasping at strawsmand saying the only thing you can come up or you are a flat out F*^$#ING RETARD. Really, he found out his crazy GF was pregnant after they split, should he go back with her just because shes pregnant. You do realize that 33% o babies are born out of wedlock. If this is the worst thing the guy ever does I am pretty sure he is a better person than you, me or most people in this world.

Brady has been there for his son with Bridget as much as she'll allow him, he pays his Child Support and she is crazy, up until recently she would not allow Tom to see the Baby in LA if Giselle was in LA, not even just with Tom but in LA, shes nuts, shes known to be a bitch.

Even if this was a vindictive calculated move by Brady and he was out banging what ever walks this is not a big deal and if you think this makes him questionable in his personal life you are dumb.  The guy has had 2 GF in the last 7 or 8 years is a good father from everything that has been repported. If anything Tom Brady is a model player the NFL loves.

What about Cromartie what type off the field chit has he gotten into. How about Braylon Edwards, how about your coach putting foot fetish videos on the web, FAT F*&K. The Jets paid Cromarties child support to get him out of legal trouble, its just funny how a fan of one of the franchises that has been on the butt end of every joke this year is pointing out someone getting there GF pregnant as off field issues. Keep Grasping your franchise is a joke and there is a reason why the jets are 9 point dogs this week, you team sucks and you just beat an average football team.

F*&^ the JETS - they suck
