The clause might not actually be "odd" but it surprised even the Oakland Raiders when Nnamdi Asomugha's contract was voided after 2010.

Adam Schefter reported the shocking news on ESPN Sunday and it eliminates the 2011 team option for $16.8 million or the value of the quarterback (yes, quarterback, they make much more on average than cornerbacks) franchise tag, whichever was higher. The Raiders confirmed the nullification of Asomugha's deal Sunday.

"The contract is voided but we have to wait on all the ramifications of the CBA before we really move on from there," Raiders senior executive John Herrera said Sunday, via Jerry McDonald of the Contra Costa Times.

Essentially, Asomugha had to reach certain incentives to keep his contract from being voided. That included either a) playing more snaps in 2010 than 2009 or b) improving upon his interceptions, fumble recoveries or sacks from 2009.

Asomugha had a "worse" season in 2010 than 2009, mainly because he only played in 14 games, and his contract was voided and the team's option to either pay or franchise him is no longer there.

That means Asomugha, who's one of the best defensive players in the NFL and, depending on how you feel about Darrelle Revis, possibly the best cornerback in the NFL will be a free agent whenever free agency picks back up after labor negotiations are settled.

And, because he's only 30 years old, he'll probably be picking up a decently-sized contract.

Nnamdi Asomugha’s contract voided by odd clause

This is not good News for the Nation. We already may see an exodus of players with the firing of Cable. I guarantee you players are not drawn to an owner to play for. Most especially Al Davis. Its the teams chances of playoffs or Super Bowl and the coaching staff, Money is also an issue however that can be splitting hairs alot because clubs offer players competitive packages. Cable was liked by the players and players like Nnamdi improved under Cable except for his injuries which held him down this season. Having him free to look elsewhere is a bad thing. Nnamdi is not a kid in this league, he is interested in success in this league and if anyone believes he will stay because of his loyalty to Al Davis is just as senile as the man.

Nnamdi Asomugha’s contract voided by odd clause

Some of you can't read to save your life.  This had nothing to do with the Raiders.  It was a clause put in his contract that if he had a better year than previous years his contract becomes guaranteed.  If he has a worse year based on 3 statistics from last year it voids the contract  It sure sounds like a clause that benefits both teams and who knows who wanted the clause more.  Everyone knows that he is a phenominal corner and the Raiders have shown in the past that they will pay and sometimes overpay to keep their own stars...Janikowski, Lechler, Kelly, Seymour.  Everyone wants to be a hater and some RAIDER fans forget that a true RAIDER fan is loyal to the team and not players anyway.  Asomugha will be back in the Silver and Black next year for sure!!!!!!!

Attention Jerry Jones

If there was a time to throw a bunch of money at a guy this is it.  Dallas' secondary has sucked since Darren Woodson left and I think he has been a sportscaster for ten years now.  One shut down corner and then use Jenkins, Scandrick or Newman on the other side.  Whichever one shows up next year.
