Free agent Asomugha has options

Nnamdi Asomugha seemingly has the entire NFL at his disposal, because every team in the league – and I repeat, every single team – would want the former Raiders CB on their roster in 2011.

That said, there are likely only a handful of clubs who will be willing to pay Asomugha what he’s worth as one of the top-two cornerbacks in the league.

The San Diego Union-Tribune, while not overly optimistic, writes the Chargers potentially could be one of those teams.

Meanwhile, Asomugha spoke with Sports Illustrated’s Jim Trotter – a portion of the interview is featured on Trotter’s Facebook page.

Said Asomugha on his impending free agency: “Honestly I'm trying not to get too caught up in it right now. Plus, it's my understanding that nothing can really happen until the CBA issues are resolved."

His thoughts about having the entire NFL at his disposal: "Well, the thought of it is very new to me. It's tough to describe. I've never been in this position before, ever."

Part of his contract being voided was that he could not be franchised. He is gone Raider fans. Its a huge blow.

Cowboys may go out and get him. It is their biggest need on Def. and it would solve it immediately.
While I'd like to see it, I kind of doubt it happens...between Asomugha and Ware that would be two HUGE contracts on the defensive side of the ball, and doesn't address the Cowboys' issues at Safety, ILB, or OL...or their 3 FA at DE, at least two of whom need new deals that will likely include raises.  With the roster turnover that needs to occur in Dallas I just can't see them being able to committ that kind of money to Nnamdi Asomugha and still fill the other holes under the salary cap -- whatever it ends up being under the new CBA.

Raiders can franchise him and probably will.  They will actually save money from the 18 mil he would have made before
Actually, while I may be mistaken, I believe part of the contract terms that voided his contract also prevents the Raiders from using the franchise tag on him (assuming the franchise tag will still exist under the new CBA).  If not, his agent was an idiot to have his client agree to a contract term that would void his contract, because he was "too good" essentially,  but still allow the Raiders to force him to then play for LESS money.  No, if he's going to be a Raider next year, its going to be for the same or more money than he would have made under the voided contract.

***Homer Declaration***

I really dont see Asomugha going anywhere.  Other than drafting speed over talent, what is the one thing people hate about Al Davis?  he over pays his own players.  Tommy Kelly?  Are you kidding me? I like him, but does anyone think other teams were lining up to offer a similar contract?

Nambdi will stay a Raider, for 20 million per season
