Raiders say goodbye to defensive coordinator

First, the option for former coach Tom Cable’s contract was not picked up, because Raiders owner Al Davis was not pleased with the team’s 8-8 performance this season - despite it being the squad’s best mark in eight years which also included a 6-0 record against the rest of the AFC West.

Apparently, the Raiders also weren’t happy with the defense, because, as the San Francisco Chronicle writes, defensive coordinator John Marshall’s contract also won’t be renewed.

According to the paper, senior executive John Herrera said “the team had staff evaluations last week and that they are confidential.”

It should be noted that Oakland’s defense ranked 11th in the NFL last season and No. 2 in pass defense.

Meanwhile, we still await the announcement that Hue Jackson will be the Raiders next coach.

Raiders say goodbye to defensive coordinator

This is old news! Marshall's firing was reported last week on various Bay Area news stations and yet cbs the website is late again with "late breaking news". It never ceases to amazes me how cbs is able to stay in business with incorrect or untimely news.

I don't have a problem with this, as long as another good DC is hired on (by that, I do NOT mean Rob Ryan). Marshall's defense gave up way too many rushing yards, and its good ranking against the pass was due mostly to Nnamdi's presence taking away one side of the field.

It is time for Al Davis to back off and hire a true g.m. he is to old to access anything to do with every day day football operations. The raiders will for ever take one step forward and three steps back as long as Al Davis is trying to run things.

Maybe Al has a plan for the team, but he just forgot what it is.  So he keeps get rid of anything that will help this team be competative in the NFL.  If I was Hue Jackson when he walks in with the paperwork I would tell him I've changed my mind and run, run real fast.  I think the Cable & Jackson combination worked and with a little more time together they could have got this team into the playoffs.  Not saying they would take them to the Superbowl, but they could have made them a very good team. Now Jackson will be saddled with some half Ass satff that Davis picks for him and struggle to win and be cast aside on two years.

Al is taking all hope for a good season next year and flushing it down the toilet. I wish one of our team captains would walk up to his office and shove their helmet up Al's a$$!!! Why would you let go of Marshall when Rob Ryan is already going to Dallas? Singletary is going to Minn, who the hell is left to coach this team?? Sorry, but Hue can't coach the entire team by himself. I can't wait to see what other dumbass moves Al senile Davis will make this offseason. Is it me or does AL remind you of that B*&ch from Major League??
