Come on, you didn’t really think you’d read the last of these stories, did you? Brett Favre is retiring. And this time, he’s putting it in print.

According to Alex Marvez of FOX Sports, Favre has officially fired his retirement papers. Apparently, Favre got the paperwork done shortly after the conclusion of his disappointing 20th NFL season.

Does this mean there’s zero chance of Favre flip-flopping again? Hahahaha – of course not. Favre filed his papers in February 2009 but was granted reinstatement so that he could join the Vikings. After his tearful 2008 farewell press conference in Green Bay, however, Favre did not file the papers.

The difference between this retirement and the previous two is that Favre is 41 and coming off an injury-and scandal-plagued campaign. But who knows, maybe he’ll change his outlook and view that as “unfinished business” come August.

Brett Favre files retirement papers

I REALLLLLLLY hope this is true. As a Packer fan, I don't actually hate him. It was time to move on for us and it never works well to move away from an old legend when he's not ready to give it up. To his credit he had a fantastic year left in him. That said, I cant wait for the day that we can welcome him back to the Packers family, retire the jersey and celebrate all the great stuff he did for us. First step in GB, Brett Favre, GB Fans, and the NFL forgetting or forgiving what happened here, and remembering what we really should. The guy that played hard every play, threw caution to the wind, and wouldn't let anyone else make a decision for him.

Kind of selfish of Brett...retiring when his sister needs financial help, Jen Stergen deserves financial compensation, and the future ex Mrs. Favre deserves a bundle for putting up with his tired act.

This guy waffles on retirement like my wife does when buying a new purse or shoes. Will believe it when I see it.

I believe its over for him. The only reason he came back this year was because of the season he had the year before. He is done. His streak is over and so is his career. He had a great career and hopefully wont be remembered for all of the off the field drama.

Right. I'm not buying it until every team has kicked off week 1 2011.
