Steelers could be getting Aaron Smith back

A. Smith
The Steelers could be getting back the player everyone inside the organization says is the team’s defensive MVP. Defensive end Aaron Smith is returning to practice this week. The 12-year pro has been out since tearing his triceps Oct. 24 at Miami.

Mike Tomlin was vague about Smith’s chances to play against the Jets on Sunday, saying, via Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, “Aaron Smith is going to practice this week. We'll see where that practice takes us.” Tomlin intimidated that if Smith did take the field Sunday, it would be on a limited basis.

Smith’s value rests in the fact the he’s a dominant backside run defender and one of the best anchoring outside blocker-eaters in the NFL. That said, the Steelers, owners of the No. 1 ranked defense in football, have been just fine without Smith. Part of the reason why is that Smith’s replacement, 2009 first-round pick Ziggy Hood, has shown consistent improvement throughout the season.

Like the ref's bailed out the jets in week 15. The jets opening touchdown had a block-in-the-back and a hold, both not called. Near the end of the game, the jets D commited 2 PI's that were not called...Stevie Wonder could have seen those PI's.

Enough about the ref's....this AFC Championship Game is big for the Steelers, at home, and should be a good game with a victory, sending them to their 3rd Super Bowl!

Oh please. Everytime the Steelers lose it is because of bad calls, but when they win they have "earned" the victory and were the better team. Give it a rest. Your team had its chances and they lost. The Jets walked into the Steelers sandbox and walked out with their toys and the win. Pass interference calls, give it a rest. Polamolu could be called for defensive holding on 50% of the plays he is involved in.

And by the way, the Steelers have been to a lot more than 3 Super Bowls - I'm not sure what you were smokin when you wrote that.

Hopefully he can come back and be a contributing factor to an already STOUT defense. This should be a really good game regardless. Looking forward to a good weekend of football.

Jealousy cracks me up.  Steelers get help from the refs.....Ravens would have won if not for the refs favoring the Steelers....

Penalties of the game:
Balt -- 6/74
Pitt -- 9/93

Yup, the ref's always favor the Steelers!  lol

do you even watch these games?  do you actually pay attention to how infrequently penalties are called on opposing o-linemen for holding and grabbing JH?  and where was the bail out?  it was a hold and nobody would have said a thing about it if it happened in the first three quarters.  you are ignorant and ridiculous

Big Ben and Mendenhall will turn the ball over at least once each......I am guessing 19-14 Jets.....Steelers will not have the refs bail them out this week
