Chargers no longer selling Spanos' minority share

The notion that the San Diego Chargers could be bolting for the bright lights of Los Angeles got a boost when the Chargers decided to sell owner Alex Spanos' 35 percent minority share of the team.

So Bolts fans should be pleased to hear the news that our Chargers Rapid Reporter Dan McLellan is dropping -- the team is no longer seeking a buyer for that minority share.

McLellan cites Mark Fabiani, the special counsel to team president Dean Spanos, as the source of the information, and notes that "the decision not to seek a buyer at this time is in large part due to the two-year extension of the Bush tax cuts."

Fans should also be pleased that it's a two-year period as well; if the Spanos family is dead set on keeping the Chargers in San Diego, that's an additional year that they're less likely to break the lease with the city on the stadium. (They have an option to not renew each year, according to earlier reports.)

It's not great news for Magic Johnson and the rest of the "bring football back to LA" contingent, but they've got a stadium to get in place first anyway.

Pure speculation. But the city is not willing to build, the fans cannot afford to flip the bill, but come on, special counsel suddenly advise Spanos family that they can maintain thier team in San Diego based on Bush tax cut extension, which might end in two years, that sounds so much like B.S., San Diesgo is not going to suddenly come up with the coin to build a new stadium in two years, clearly drivel from my ass, but aren't you pissed that this is all being played out in the public forum, reminds me of high school, the city and Spanos family need to make a deal or quit jerking the fans around, seriously, is there any information to indicate that the Chargers are staying, it's  been over three years now and no stadium deal... besides calling me an asshole, or jerk, which may be true, are you aware of any information regarding the Spanos family keeping the Chargers in sunny San Diego beyond the Bush tax cut extension?

Wow, isn't it amazing how parmaunderdawg can type that drivel out of his a-hole? Tell me, how did you come upon such information? Also, tell me how one gets a 47 rating on this board - I just can't seem to be enough of a jerk to get there.

...the Chargers are as good as gone. This is simply the Spanos family and their counsel trying to keep a mass exodous of support in the form of ticket and merchandise sales from happening over the next year or so, or until the new stadium is built in L.A. The Charger fans here in San Diego are being manipulated. The fans can plead all they want, the money to made in L.A. is daunting... and in the end, that is all that matters... the moving trucks have already been rented and reserved for a TBD midnight move!

Stop being so extreme. No decisions have been made yet. The Chargers for year have ben trying to get a stadium deal done, and it has taken much too long. But to say the city and the Chargers have not tried is not true.

I do not like Norv and AJ because I don't think either one has what it takes to win a Super Bowl, but that doesn't mean I want the Chargers going to LA.

Must be "clear" in your own demented mind gambitto. Spanos has made no such statement. Frankly, I don't care if they leave for LA since I no longer live in the area, but felt compelled to call out your outright lie. You must be a republican .

And English Michele - go back to England.

This changes nothing since Dean has already made it clear that he is going to move the team in 2012.

As long as America's finest city is run by moronic, corrupt, ego-maniacs the Bolts will always be linked to L.A.

They have climate, they have hotels and they have infrastructure, so all they need is a stadium and the Super Bowl is there once every five years for eternity, along with the associated business.

The people of San Diego, and Bolts fans in particular, are Lions led by Donkeys.
