Matthew Stafford undergoes shoulder surgery

Bad news and good news for Lions fans. The bad news is your franchise quarterback underwent surgery on his throwing shoulder Friday. The good news is, according to Tom Kowalski of MLive.com, Stafford should be 100 percent healthy for the Lions’ May minicamp.

This operation was not unexpected. Stafford injured his right shoulder twice during the 2010 season. Dr. James Andrews reportedly told the 23-year-old quarterback that his shoulder could heal without a procedure, but that going under the knife was better.

Matthew Stafford undergoes shoulder surgery

Wrong, Benoit (balls)! this is what your boy Will Brinson wrote November 15
According to a release from the team, Andrews' diagnosis of Stafford's injury is similar to one that the team's medical staff decided on, and Stafford will simply need to go through a similar rehabilitation plan to the one he went through during his first shoulder injury this year.

That might not guarantee that Stafford stays healthy over an extended period of time, but it at least provides some hope that he can get healthy and get back to developing as a potential franchise quarterback.

And it also opens up the possibility that Stafford could return by mid-December, which is much better than .
.This is what I posted after reading he injured it the week before.
He should have had surgery after the first injury. This will continue to happen until he does. His shoulder capsule is too loose. Have surgery, tighten it up, and play Drew Brees 2 in 2011. If there is a 2011.
Granted, he didn't tear his labrum like Brees, but he will have similar recovery time and better results since there wasn't a tear. He has wasted 2 years because of shitty advice. Poor Lions.

Matthew Stafford undergoes shoulder surgery

I can't believe they pretended for 2 months like he might be back for the last game or 2. Then put him on ir week 16 waisting a roster spot on a team already lacking in overall talent and depth. All the while ending up with a surgery that sounds somewhat complicated with a longer than you would like timetable for recovery. Now he might not be ready for OTA's let alone preseason knowing this teams history and run of bad luck. All I can say is see you in 2012 Andrew Luck and you better bring some with you!

Call me crazy, but shouldn't this have happened 3 months ago?  Ya know, to MAKE SURE he's ready for camp?

Matthew Stafford undergoes shoulder surgery

I like this guy, but if the injuries pile up we may never see his full potential.

Seems like once the bad luck starts for some guys, it just keeps on rolling.

Hope all goes well for Stafford. The Lions could be contenders next year with a healthy QB that finishes the season. They have a lot of talent on this team.

He needs to Study Manning

He's a tough guy and could be a QB if he learns how to fall and avoid hits.  He needs to watch hours of Manning and how he avoids the big hit.  Otherwise this is a short, promising career down the drain.
