Jets think Hines Ward is rather dirty

In the debate about whether Steelers WR Hines Ward is a tough, gritty, blue-collar WR who makes hard, but clean blocks on defenders or a dirty, cowardly head hunter, I usually lean toward the former.

I’m pretty sure a wide variety of players – like Jets LB Bart Scott, Ravens S Ed Reed and Bengals LB Keith Rivers, all of whom have been hammered by Ward – would disagree with my assessment.

You can add Jets defensive coordinator Mike Pettine to the list.

“Our guys I think called him the toughest guy in the league when nobody’s looking,” Pettine said, via ESPN New York.

Considering Ward was voted by his peers in Sports Illustrated as the dirtiest player in the league, Pettine’s comment might have some merit. That doesn’t mean the “tough, gritty, blue collar” thing is wrong, though.

“That works for them,” Pettine said. “He’s kind of the spark that gets them going and we are well aware of it.”

It's gonna be a great game.  Steelers are looking scary tough.  The Jets are so in this tough.  You're kidding yourself if think otherwise.

I think it is safe to say that the JETS secondary is scared. I am in no way a Pittsburgh fan, I am just a fan of the game. I know Ward roughs it up and defensive guys aren't used to receivers laying hits on them like he does. If it was an offensive lineman, we wouldn't be talking about whether he hits people too hard. The NFL applauds a tough quarterback and nasty linebackers. But no one expects to be taken out by a guy who is supposed to run & catch living. In the modern NFL we have been custom to the likes of Ocho, Owens, Moss who have programed the position to being fit for a diva or drama queen, not a gritty in your face player till the clock hits zero gladiator. He is a four-time Pro Bowler who has passed Lynn Swann and John Stallworth on Pittsburgh's all-time receiving list. He was the MVP in Pittsburgh's last Super Bowl win, and has missed only six games in 11 seasons. I think it goes without saying that he will be the best player in the NFL playing on Sunday night matchup, and the jets know this.

I find it hard to believe that you have seen several Packer games this year.  If you have, I also find it hard to believe that the only reason they won was because of the Zebras.  If the Zebras weren't involved in the beating that they gave the Falcons last week, they would have lost by how many then in your opinion?  You believe the Zebras were responsible for more than 27 pts and this is the first we have heard of the game being fixed in favor of the Packers.  You my friend are a genius and are wasting your talents on a CBS sports Blog, you DONKEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't know about all this "dirty" stuff.  I think dirty is a guy trying to injure another player or something along those lines.  Ward is very physical and I'd even agree he crosses the line once in a while.  I've seen him take a shot here and there after the whistle.  But I've seen a lot of guys do it.  Idealy they get caught and it's 15 yeards but sometimes they miss it...

Yeah, it's something he shouldn;t do, but I think it's more a case of a guy playing with a lot of emotion going a bit too far.

As for some of his blocks being a helmet shot, the rules allow it, so you can't blame him.  If they want to rack down of defenders leading with the helmet, it's only fair they do the same for WRs when blocking.  But that's a league issue, nit a Hines Ward issue.

cheeseheads can not win without help from the zebras.  in every game I have seen it is the zebras whom have beat the cheeseheads opponent.

Colts, respectable team with an amazing QB who did not have the support to pull off a victory, yet still a very noteworthy victory for the Jets...

Pats, amazing team with an amazing QB, felt really good to send them packing...  Even better to see the Pat fans still writhing in agony over the loss...  lol

Steelers, it's hard to trash talk the Steelers.  I like their team, I like their fans.  They're not wearing Uggs and being *itches like the Pats...

Still, as silly as it sounds, the Jets are rolling, I see them winning this one...

24 17 Jets

Would you believe that Hines Ward played a great deal of QB at UGA?
