Jets think Hines Ward is rather dirty

In the debate about whether Steelers WR Hines Ward is a tough, gritty, blue-collar WR who makes hard, but clean blocks on defenders or a dirty, cowardly head hunter, I usually lean toward the former.

I’m pretty sure a wide variety of players – like Jets LB Bart Scott, Ravens S Ed Reed and Bengals LB Keith Rivers, all of whom have been hammered by Ward – would disagree with my assessment.

You can add Jets defensive coordinator Mike Pettine to the list.

“Our guys I think called him the toughest guy in the league when nobody’s looking,” Pettine said, via ESPN New York.

Considering Ward was voted by his peers in Sports Illustrated as the dirtiest player in the league, Pettine’s comment might have some merit. That doesn’t mean the “tough, gritty, blue collar” thing is wrong, though.

“That works for them,” Pettine said. “He’s kind of the spark that gets them going and we are well aware of it.”

Jets think Hines Ward is rather dirty

Was there ever any doubt that the Jets would up the ante on their trash talking the day before the game ?? What else can you expect from a team that has to growl and bark in order to try to gain an advantage ?? That's all the Jets ever do !! Like one poster said, Sunday will also be one of the rare times I root for the Steelers.

Magnum0417 and C-YAA, it will be my pleasure to welcome you and your team to the sidelines on Sunday night. Like the Patriots and Colts, you and yours will ALSO be watching the Super Bowl from your TV screens. Sure, you can say you put the Colts and Pats there. But a couple of playoff wins lose their luster when the ultimate goal is not reached. And since the Jets one ancient SB trophy is blinded by the shine of 3 for the Patriots and 2 for the Colts, you'll just have to start dreaming about next year. AGAIN.

Stone silence is headed for Gotham City in a little more than 24 hours.

Come on, Knowledge.  I can understand when people on here whine about Ward.  He plays hard and gets it done.  And anyone not a Steelers fan is gonna hate that.  And I am not defending those who have obvious bias against the guy.  And I'm not agreeing with them either, or at least not for their reasons.

But you can't really believe that there isn't a grain of truth to it when its the guys that play the game that say he's the dirtiest. Are you really arguing that EVERYONE has it out for the guy?  That's just not reasonable.

35yrMetsFan, do you realize that most of the hits that he has put on people haven't even been flagged by officials on the field. It's simple. Those players that voted for him are probably offensive players and, teammates of players that he has blown up! If you play football how can you not appreciate a WR that pancakes people at a position that is not known for blocking? If he was a Jet that same coach that called him dirty would be seen whooping it up, and high fiving anyone near him on the sidelines after one of Hines bone rattling blocks. The players that voted that way are basically the equivalent of a female dog in my opinion!

I'm so sorry. You must have a bookie after you for betting too much money on your Patriots last week. Maybe Rex's wife can rub Brady's foot after we win in Dallas for consolation.

Don't want to get hit while not looking....simple start looking! whah whah whah. Players say the league is trying to get hard hits out of the game then complain when they get hit hard. Hines ward is a football player and if they don't like it then leave the league it won't bother me at all... get all the pansies out now. I wish we had a couple more Wards I never see him hit anyone late I never see him go for someone’s knees every week I see at least 5 dirty hits but not one from Hines. Face it folks players call him dirty because he is good at what he does and maybe hits a little harder than most defensive players guess they resort to name calling because they are jealous

Whose refuting that he's a dirty player.  The hall of fame has many players that were considered dirty in their time, all winners.  If you played the game you would know that its a fine line from intense to dirty.  That line gets blurry when championships are at stake.

OK.  One guy on here.  Just one.

Say something intelligent that addresses the fact that his peers consider him the dirtiest player in the NFL.

Just one stinking rebuttal of the fact that it's not just clowns on these threads, but people who actually play the game, that think that.

Dirty play = 2 sb rings going for 3, I'll take all the dirty players I can get.  Its the NFL, not pee-wee football.  They all get paid to win.   Do your talking on the field Jets, history tells me tomorrow will be your last chance this year.
