UPDATE 2:45 p.m. EST: Lovie Smith said Cutler has a sprained MCL. A sprain is the same as a minor tear. Smith also said that Cutler is a tough guy.

----------

Sounds like a slew of former NFL players and overactive Twitter users might owe Jay Cutler an apology. According to Sean Jensen of the Chicago Sun Times, the Bears quarterback suffered an MCL tear in Sunday’s NFC Championship game.

Doctors are still determining the grade of the tear. It’s worth noting that the grade of the MCL tear is significant. A tear can sometimes be another word for “sprain”.

Because Cutler was simply standing on the sideline and not getting treatment on his knee during the second half Sunday, many outside observers (who, of course, could not feel Cutler’s pain) were quick to criticize his toughness and heart.

Though the initial harsh reaction to Cutler’s injury was startling (how often do NFL players get questioned like this?), it wasn’t unprecedented. LaDainian Tomlinson went through a similar ordeal a few years ago when a knee injury kept him out of playoff action. Tomlinson’s knee injury just happened to be an MCL.

Report: Cutler tore his MCL

And another thing:  Does anybody not think the Bears are going to exagerate this report and say that it is a torn MCL when reality is that maybe he had a lesser injury?
Are they trying to shield their star QB from criticism?
I wouldn't put it past them, or any team for that matter, to just that.

Report: Cutler tore his MCL

All these people hating on Jay Cutler need to just back off. He played a bad game yesterday, big deal. It's known that he can have great games, horrible games, and the occasional decent games. He is hit or miss, and Bears fans need to get used to that. His toughness is there. His durability is there. His heart is there. He may not show it, but he wouldn't just quit in the middle of a NFC title game. He played a bad first half, so have your shots and just shut it.
The real problem yesterday though lies with Mike Martz and Lovie Smith. Why on earth after establishing the run, and having huge success with middle routes and curls, would you go deep against Dom Cappers? Good call Mike. Another great call was to put Todd Collins in against the Packers!!! For two series none the less! The man proved in Carolina (bottom feeders mind you), with his four INT game that he is out of gas. 2 more series more for Caleb Hanie who would have had much more success on those drives.
Also you never punt on the 30 yard line...go for the FG. They did that twice. Let's say Robbie Gould makes those FG's. Now you are down by just a point! That changes the game all together. It was a bad day for Lovie, Martz, Cutler and the officiating. A great defensive day goes to waste, and a chance for the Super Bowl with it. Good job Lovie and Martz, thanks for letting egos erupt at the WORST TIME.

Report: Cutler tore his MCL

While I cannot comment on him personally, as I have no experience with him in that regard, I do have a problem with his actions in the game yesterday.
If he indeed has a torn MCL then that type of injury must not be that bad.  If it is then why was Cutler walking on the sidelines (with no visible limp that I could see), riding the stationary bike, sporting a pouty face while he sat on the bench, and overall looked like someone who simply wanted out of the game and just found an excuse to do so?
Maybe the injury is serious but he certainly didn't look like it was.

ALL ARMS!!!! NO HEART!!!!

JAY,
While rehabbing your knee in the offseason you should also add alot more cardio to strengthin your HEART, with less focus on your throwing arm.  Id like to believe that the Rog
er Goodell asked you at half time to stay out of the game knowing that you would not be able to play in SUPER BOWL for financil reasons, ratings, and the good of the game however im not a the biggest of conspiracy theorists.  And by the way you've carried yourself during your (primaDONNA) career I doubt that was the case.

P.S.  Next time you get hurt show the PAIN and your peers and your teammates wont be so harsh. If the pain killers let you stand you could have played.  It dont affect your arm.  OH and you need to win a Super Bowl  a few MVP's and start a whole lot of games before you earn PRIMADONNA status.

Report: Cutler tore his MCL

I just gave El Duderino 5 stars for his post but I am still of the opinion that Michael Corleone was guilty of being a murderer in the least or a Capo di Tutti Capi in the worst - but I digress.....

Report: Cutler tore his MCL

"That may be true, but does taking personal shots at posters give bitter Bears fans a good name?? "

Probably not, but it sure is fun.

Someone wrote that "The Bears were a competent head coach and GM away from making the Super Bowl."

I completely agree with that.  If anyone thought the Bears should have been playing yesterday, they're delusional.

Report: Cutler tore his MCL

The coaching staff should have skipped collins and went straight to Hanie

Todd Collins should have been RELEASED after his STELLAR performance in the Carolina game. Yet Lovie Jauronstedt and Genius Angelo kept this piece of crap around because they didn't want to eat the $$$$.

The Bears were a competent head coach and GM away from making the Super Bowl.

Report: Cutler tore his MCL

Look here, Cutler is a jerk!! I know first hand because I saw him in a local eatery when he was here in Denver. This is why he is getting blasted by so many current and former players. I don't know why anyone would like this douche! Stop defending this a-hole. It's not a good look for anyone.
