Devastating news for the Steelers: center Maurkice Pouncey is out for Super Bowl XLV. The rookie Pro Bowler suffered a high left ankle sprain when Jets linebacker Bryan Thomas inadvertently rolled up on his leg during the AFC Championship. As we wrote earlier on Wednesday, Pouncey is on crutches and in a hard cast.

Guard Chris Kemoeatu spilled the beans  about Pouncey’s status. “We are definitely sad that he won’t be able to be with us in the Super Bowl,” Kemoeatu told Mark Kaboly of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. “Definitely I feel bad for him. We just have to win it for him.”

Doug Legursky, a third-year pro who was undrafted coming out of Marshall, will once again fill in. Legursky and Ben Roethlisberger had trouble with their snap exchange against New York. They now have two weeks to get that in order.

Pouncey’s absence hurts the offensive line’s mobility in the run game – a critical factor given that the way to attack Green Bay’s powerful front three is to force their 325-plus-pounders to play laterally. On the bright side, the Steelers at least won’t have to deal with the distraction of addressing Pouncey’s status every day for the next two weeks.

They won 4 games with Charlie Batch, Dennis Dixon, and Byron Leftwich starting.  I think they will be okay.

Zero chance of the Steelers winning. I love it. Everyone, including Vegas, who underestimates the Steelers, will be eating crow very soon. B.J Raji will be double teamed, like most 3-4 nose tackles are, so Legursky will be fine. A Vegas line doesn't mean shite when the ball is kicked off, just ask the Gaytriots when they lost to the Giants. And if Vegas is soooo right, it wouldn't be that the Steelers have ZERO chance, now would it? That's not what the odds say.

I will come back to this post after the Super Bowl to see what excuse you have for your prediction being wrong. GO STEELERS!

Don't believe it until February 6th! Possible mind games, maybe?

They should have just kept quiet and secretly suited up Maurkice's twin brother, Mike.

Who'd know the difference?

i dissagree i think the steelers will win big . they will dominate the turnover ratio and convert . they are already SB tested . you have no idea what GB will look like at the onset .

Legursky will do fine, the blocking has never been a problem for him. The snaps last week were a result of Roethlisberger and he not working much together, that'll get worked out this week. Sucks for Maurkice, I wish him a full recovery, but the Steelers will play on with their patchwork line like they have all year.

Game, set, match. They might as well give B.J. Raji a Steeler jersey with #37, since he will spend the entire game in the Pittsburgh backfield. He will dominate Legursky. There is ZERO chance that the Steelers win this game. When Vegas made GB a 2 1/2 favorite, they are telling you the Steelers can't win. That spread is begging the public to bet the Steelers. If the majority of the gambling public does in fact bet Pittsburgh (which they will), how do you think that is going to work out for them?
