M. Pouncey (US Presswire)Posted by Andy Benoit

Devastating news for the Steelers: center Maurkice Pouncey is out for Super Bowl XLV. The rookie Pro Bowler suffered a high left ankle sprain when Jets linebacker Bryan Thomas inadvertently rolled up on his leg during the AFC Championship. As we wrote earlier on Wednesday, Pouncey is on crutches and in a hard cast.

Guard Chris Kemoeatu spilled the beans  about Pouncey’s status. “We are definitely sad that he won’t be able to be with us in the Super Bowl,” Kemoeatu told Mark Kaboly of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. “Definitely I feel bad for him. We just have to win it for him.”

Doug Legursky, a third-year pro who was undrafted coming out of Marshall, will once again fill in. Legursky and Ben Roethlisberger had trouble with their snap exchange against New York. They now have two weeks to get that in order.

Pouncey’s absence hurts the offensive line’s mobility in the run game – a critical factor given that the way to attack Green Bay’s powerful front three is to force their 325-plus-pounders to play laterally. On the bright side, the Steelers at least won’t have to deal with the distraction of addressing Pouncey’s status every day for the next two weeks.

Steelers Pro Bowl C Pouncey out for Super Bowl

I'm pretty sure God does not care who wins the Superbowl.... so keep praying.  He does care that you are just as arrogant (hiding behind your computer) as the Steelers fan who posted the original comment.  Grow up.

Ben Roethlisberger and the Steelers built the 24-0 lead vs the J-E-T-S by running the ball primarily, with Doug Legursky as center.  Pouncey went out on the first drive.

The vaunted Rex Ryan J-E-T-S defense generated exactly two sacks on the Pouncey-less offensive line.

I can't speak for gamblers and Vegas odds makers, but it is important to keep in mind the Steelers and Ben Roethlisberger generated 503 yards passing last year in a must win game for the Steelers against a Dom Capers defense and without Pouncey.   The O line last year was no better (or worse) than this years' line.

Raji changes things, but my money is on the Steelers to come up with a plan to overcome whatever obstacles are thrown in their way.

Ben being out would be devastating news.

and packers fans calm down, rogers struggled against a lesser defense against the bears and a lesser offense as well.
Hey stupid. Do you know anything about anything?  Rodgers ( not Rogers) and the Packers had to play an away game IN CHICAGO... freezing weather, hard field, windy, etc.    Ever look up how Rodgers does indoors and in good weather??

And by the way, they never trailed in the game at all.  So as much as they "struggled" they found a way to get it done against a good football team.

Finally, they were playing in a hostile environment on the road with very few of their fans there.... unlike the Superbowl where home field means nothing.

I hope the Packers kick your butts all over the field.... I can't wait.

An injury right before the big game has to be very dissapointing as a player.  However, as unfortunate as it is for Steeler fans and Pouncey personally, the Packers have 16 starting players who have missed much of the season, the playoffs and will miss the Super Bowl.  Good teams adjust and I believe the Steelers will be fine without him.  They beat the jets with a sound rushing attack and decent QB protection after Pouncey went down on the first drive.

And as always with injuries never say never.  Pouncey could bounce back before Super Bowl Sunday or the Steelers could be blowing smoke to distract the Packers before the big game...im probably speculating though.

GO PACK GO!

IF Pouncey is out this is a loss for the Steelers but certainly not devasting one. Remember, Legurskey played well (except for the snap that caused the safety) and came in the 1st quarter so he went almost the whole game against the Jets. Something else to keep in mind he weighs about 30 pounds more than Pouncey and that could be an advantage against Raji.
A post like that is a great example of why I hate the Steelers... fans of most fan bases would never even pretend to believe some of the crap you typed above.  But not Steelers fans.. they are invincible.  Even their backups are as good or BETTER then probowl starters !! Wow !!

This backup is in his 3rd year and wasn't drafted by an NFL team.  Yet although he literally almost never sees the field, he's suddenly a great option for the SUPERBOWL???  LOL  Sure man... keep telling yourself that.

And maybe the funniest line of all is your last line.  Because he ways 30 pounds more then Pouncey, he's a better option for dealing with Raji, a monster defensive tackle???   Once again,,, good for you...... never thought anybody could fit that much garbage into such a short post.

Had you said the Steelers have 2 weeks to prepare for this and MAYBE this guy could get on the same page as Ben I wouldn't have anything to say to you......   but to imply that it might be a positive is typical Steeler fan crap and arrogance.

The center in the NFL is one of the most important positions on the field.  The snaps, pass protection, running plays, that position is huge.

I pray to God the Packers SMOKE the Steelers... the NFL has a long offseason but it'll be much sweeter if that happens....

Even as a Packer fan you have to feel for the guy. To miss the game through injury is a tough break. You can put any spin on it you want, about the size of the other guy, he has two weeks to get ready etc., but if he was better than Pouncey he would have started. He didn't and isn't so it can only help the other team.
