Steelers Pro Bowl C Pouncey out for Super Bowl

M. Pouncey (US Presswire)Posted by Andy Benoit

Devastating news for the Steelers: center Maurkice Pouncey is out for Super Bowl XLV. The rookie Pro Bowler suffered a high left ankle sprain when Jets linebacker Bryan Thomas inadvertently rolled up on his leg during the AFC Championship. As we wrote earlier on Wednesday, Pouncey is on crutches and in a hard cast.

Guard Chris Kemoeatu spilled the beans  about Pouncey’s status. “We are definitely sad that he won’t be able to be with us in the Super Bowl,” Kemoeatu told Mark Kaboly of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. “Definitely I feel bad for him. We just have to win it for him.”

Doug Legursky, a third-year pro who was undrafted coming out of Marshall, will once again fill in. Legursky and Ben Roethlisberger had trouble with their snap exchange against New York. They now have two weeks to get that in order.

Pouncey’s absence hurts the offensive line’s mobility in the run game – a critical factor given that the way to attack Green Bay’s powerful front three is to force their 325-plus-pounders to play laterally. On the bright side, the Steelers at least won’t have to deal with the distraction of addressing Pouncey’s status every day for the next two weeks.

Woodson's House -- are you on crack saying the Pack is going to win by 24 -- come on get real.  This game will be within 6 more then likely - two good teams.  But unfortunetly the inexperience of the Packs will show and the Steelers will win number 7 in Dallas(just a fitting location for them to do it too) -- to much experience and not mention that people/media are already not giving the Steelers any love - which is what they like to hear - not good for the Pack.

I love when people say Ben didn't do anything in either Super Bowl he played in.  The one against the Seachickens was not a good game for him, but without his play in Denver, the Steelers aren't in that Super Bowl.  Jump ahead to the AZ game, he played pretty well.  Not great, but well.  Lets not forget it was BEN that lead the drive to win that game and BEN that made not 2, but 2 perfect throws to win the game.  1 Homes droped.

terminator, ben is the reason the steelers won the superbowl against the cardinals. he made play after play in that game. the defense is the one the surrendered the lead late in the third quarter. and despite a holding call early on the winning drive, he marched them right up the field. his only int was off a tipped pass. he should have been mvp, not that pass dropping retard holmes.

Really?   Really?  Do me and all of us a favor and quit using the word "really" - the most over-used and annoying word of late!!

Sam Shields ran a 4.2 40 vs Wallace 4.33.  Shows you know what your talking about.
Ward isn't going to do much.  White didn't do anything against Green Bay the two times we played them.  He's twice the beast Ward is.

The back up will just do fine?  You must be Matt Millen.  Drafting buggers instead of dope heads for the Steelers.

Really?  Not saying either team is a clear winner, but come on!  Ben Roethlisberger was not good in his two Super Bowl appearances.  He was fortunate to have a good defense to score points against the Cardinals, and they won despite his play in his first Super Bowl.  As for Wallace...  The only measure of speed we have is the 40 time, and Sam Shields is faster...  Some had him clocked at a 4.2, compared to Wallace's 4.33.

I don't see either team with a clear advantage, but losing a Pro Bowl center is going to hurt.  Plus, the backup looked terrible in the AFC Championship.  Pressure makes weird things happen.  You just don't know what he'll do in the Super Bowl.

Don't worry about the center position. Legursky will do just fine. It is in the air where the Steelers will beat the Packers. Ben has more than enough Super Bowl experience and his record speaks for itself. Rogers on the other hand is unproven in a game as big as the super bowl. The only thing he has to show is an invisible belt. Not to mention he is concussion prone and if I remember correctly both of his concussions this year came from turf. I predict him getting his third on Sunday in the first half. The rest is history. I agree the Packers DB are great but while they are covering Ward and Wallace , Ben will be going to the 2 rookie receivers and Miller for TD's. Not to mention the fact that Ben has the best pump fake in the NFL and the Pack has no one who can keep up with Wallace when he goes deep. Your theory sounded good but it is just like Roger's belt.................. imaginary!
