Report: Eagles will franchise tag Vick

It sounds like the Eagles know where they want their offense to go next season, and it sounds like they know who they want to lead them there.

Not surprisingly, that’d be QB Michael Vick. And to wrap him up for another season without having to commit a long-term contract to him, the Eagles will place the franchise tag on Vick, according to a report by ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Vick, of course, was amazing for much of the season, supplanting Kevin Kolb as the official Donovan McNabb replacement and then leaving Kolb in a sticky situation (probably half the teams would use him as a starting quarterback, and unfortunately for him, the Eagles are not one of those teams).

But Schefter also writes Philadelphia will look to deal Kolb – who’s slated to make $1.4 million next year but also desperately wants to start. Considering the amount of interest Kolb should draw from other clubs, look for him not to be in an Eagles uniform next season.

Seriously... he killed some dogs and smoked some pot... who cares!? I have dogs, I love them, would never want them treated that way, but people get drunk drive in a car and kill actual people and you never hear about it.. they serve the same sentence he did.. so no I really dont care about a couple dogs... he served his time.. get over it.. he played great this year.. pay the man or let him go to someone who will pay him... franchise tag this year for a qb is what 16m? or somewhere north of 10 right? thats a great pay day! but then give him the money

First of all, you can't trade a player if he's not signed to a contract. And if they couldn't or wouldn't sign him to a long term deal, franchising him was their only option.  Actually, there was one other option... and that's do nothing.  But that would've been the dumbest move of the decade.  At least 4 or 5 teams would have lined up and started a bidding war for Vick...

And if you think they can't win anything with Vick, who do you suggest they start at qb they can win anything with?  You couldn't be thinking kolb is the man to lead the way, because if you are that's laughable beyond belief.  Who else?  A mid to late round first round draft pick?

Michael Vick started 12 games this year and looked fantastic overall.  He can still run like hell and had a qb rating of just over 100... awesome.  He's BY FAR the best qb that would have been available this off season if they wouldn't have franchised him.... and if anybody else would have been available that's better, they would have demanded a lot more then a 1 year deal for just under 20 million dollars.

But I just wasted my time... you're a pittsburgh fan... you don't know much....

Enjoy your beating this Sunday by the Packers... should be fun to watch
Where do I start redwing 69? Actually your whole post is stupid. I dont usually call people names on here but you're an exception.

Since when do you need to have a contract to be traded? They own the rights to him dont they?
And yes as I said earlier IMO they have a better long term future w/ Kolb. I'm pretty sure that was the Eagles plan before he got a concussion in the first game. Sure Vick had a good rating early in the year, but how as it at the end??

You didnt just waste your time, you wasted everyone elses time but you're a ? We dont know who you're a fan of because you are scared to list them. Lions fan? I guess its ok to say you're a redwings fan because they're winning, well except in the last stanley Cup when they lost to the Penguins. That one still stings dosent it. Enjoy watching this Sundays game. I'll be rooting for a team and you'll be rooting against a team. I guess haters keep hating.

It is a shame that we forget what Vick has done.....let is avoid the obvious dog killing/fighting.....how about flipping off his home crowd...how about lying to a NFL owner that put his complete trust in him....how about carrying marijuana hidding in a water bottle.....how about hanging out at bars with "old" friends (completely against his probation).
We think that his is playing well for now so everything is all better....but come on ....he has a poor game or two and we will see if this strong willed man stands up to real pressure of trying to compete when he has some challenges.

It is 9 million I think, regardless of what it is though, I think it is BS to give the NFL franchises socialist rights in a capitalist market.

Really sad hateful people out there. Lets look in your closet and see what bad things you have done. I would bet most of you same people have never paid for any of the wrong you did and if you did you would want a chance to have a better life and to make up for those mistakes. Now imagine you arent allowed to do so and you can never earn a good living again? Maybe you would feel a little different if it were your life, your mistake, your children you have to feed or your future!
Funny isn't it? Half the people on these boards smash Michael Vick and  believe he should never get a second chance in life yet probably 80 percent of the people on these boards have done something stupid or wrong in their life.  They just aren't man enough to admit this and deal with their own issues, face their own life head on instead of hiding behind a computer and being smashing others.

For some of these people the laws of the land only matter when they say it matters. Multiple threads have come up in the past that talk about drug use, particularly marijuana.   It's illegal yet half these people use it on a regular basis.  They either grow it illegally, deal it, or purchase it from drug dealers. Yet just because they say so, it's ok to do.  Yeah, they  are breaking the law but they decided since in their opinion it should be legal it's ok to do.

What does this have to do with Vick?  Everything.  I"m against dog fighting, 100 percent against it.  But why isn't it ok that some people look at pitbulls as nothing but fighting, money making dogs but it's ok a lot of people believe their favourite drug should be legal?

Weird...

You Know its just amazing. Vick does something against dogs and pays his debt to society. He is still paying it with this crowd Another QB we know who will be playing next week does something against women and gets a complete pass. He has done nothing except maybe pay them off. It really says something about our society.

ezmover how do you put the Mannings, Brady and Young in the same sentence? Young is terrible and last I checked he doesn't even have a team because nobody wants him. If you think there is a team that would rather have Kolb than Vick you are sorely mistaken. Vick showed this season that he is capable of leading a team and if not for Brady putting together one of the greatest seasons ever Vick would probably win MVP. Whatever hate you have in you is clouding your mind and not letting you see Vick for the elite talent that he is. You, like alot of other people need to get over what has happened and move on.

And this is what is wrong with society. People want him banned from the league because of what he did. He paid for his crime, is he not allowed to ever make a living again? Once again this is what is wrong with most of you who dont see the bigger picture. People go to jail in this country and come out and try to get their lives together. But because of society being so hateful these people never get a chance to live a better life and do better because you people dont want them to do anything more then work at Burger King! Then you wonder why so many people go back to crime. They can never get REAL jobs where they have a chance to make REAL decent money. We want to punish our citizens the rest of their lives for crimes they already paid for.
Im sorry people make mistakes. He went to jail longer and lost more then anyone who has even been convicted of the same crimes. He has done everything to try to make others see the errors in his judgement and to not do what he did. He has done more to help stop dog fighting then any person ever, already! He will continue to do more and help prevent this stuff from happening. But you people cant see the good you only see the bad.

Really sad hateful people out there. Lets look in your closet and see what bad things you have done. I would bet most of you same people have never paid for any of the wrong you did and if you did you would want a chance to have a better life and to make up for those mistakes. Well, I can't say I am happy for Vick but I think his play warrants a franchise tag.  He did some horrific things and has paid his dues(to some extent)in terms of his prison sentence.  I will never root for Michael Vick as I loved him as a player since he was at Virginia Tech but now I dislike him as a person, even though I do want him to succeed because he is such a gifted player.  Guy's with Michael Vick's abilities do not come around often and as a football fan and former college coach, it is a pleasure watching him take the field and hope to see him play for years to come.  If he can keep his nose clean and works with FBI to really help shut down these dog-fighting operations, which he does know about, I will have more respect for him as a person...but it will be like trying to get "blood out of a stone".
