Report: Eagles will franchise tag Vick

It sounds like the Eagles know where they want their offense to go next season, and it sounds like they know who they want to lead them there.

Not surprisingly, that’d be QB Michael Vick. And to wrap him up for another season without having to commit a long-term contract to him, the Eagles will place the franchise tag on Vick, according to a report by ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Vick, of course, was amazing for much of the season, supplanting Kevin Kolb as the official Donovan McNabb replacement and then leaving Kolb in a sticky situation (probably half the teams would use him as a starting quarterback, and unfortunately for him, the Eagles are not one of those teams).

But Schefter also writes Philadelphia will look to deal Kolb – who’s slated to make $1.4 million next year but also desperately wants to start. Considering the amount of interest Kolb should draw from other clubs, look for him not to be in an Eagles uniform next season.

Report: Eagles will franchise tag Vick

Seeing as how matt cassel went to the probowl this year, had 27 TD's and only 7 interceptions, a 93 quarterback rating, and helped the chiefs back to the playoffs this season, how can u compare them. Kolb will be just fine, he is a decent quarterback that hasnt really had a chance to start, he did ok in vicks abscence, was a lil inconsistent, but thats normal for a young quarterback.

Report: Eagles will franchise tag Vick

There's a lot of people saying that this is a dumb move by the Eagles and that they should lock up Vick with a long-term deal.  Those people are stupid.  This is a smart, but expensive move by the Eagles and it hopefully will pay off.  It's going to cost roughly $20 million to franchise tag Vick but it's for a reason.  The Eagles want to see if Vick can play at a high level for the entire season and stay healthy with his aggressive play style.  They don't want to lock him up if he is going to consistently have injures.  If Vick can prove that he can stay healthy for an entire season, the Eagles will dish out the money to keep him here as long as they can.  As for Kolb, I don't blame im for wanting out.  This year it was suppose to be his year but he got knocked out in game 1, but I really don't see him starting anywhere anytime soon.  You can't get handcuffed by the Redskins one week and then carve up the Falcons the next week.  He isn't consistent at all and that's not what teams are looking for in a starting quarterback.  If I had to guess, I'd say he'll go to the Cardinals because they are in flux with their quarterback situation and I think they can use a quarterback with experience.

Report: Eagles will franchise tag Vick

I recall Vick's bankruptcy settlement allows him to only utilize $300K a year for personal use and the rest would go to pay off the $20 million in debt he accrued in the past.  Assuming he paid down about 25% of that the past two years, this years salary minus taxes will knock out the lions share of his debt..Bringing him back to zero.  I imagine the tag is a bit frustrating to him because it still just leaves uncertaintly to his financial future.  What if he gets hurt, i guess he could insure himself, but how does he finance that?  So Vick is still a year away of creating any financial security, assuming he continues to not get too much in the way of endorsements.

Report: Eagles will franchise tag Vick

This is a non-story. Anyone with half a brain knew this was what the Eagles were going to do. It is an awesome position to be in. The only problem is that now that draft picks are going to be cheaper it is going to be even harder to extract picks from teams. If someone wants to give up a couple frist rounders for Vick I would take it because Vick's style of play is going to have him out of the league in 3 years anyway.

Next year will be his last year as an Eagle. I'm sure he's pizzed that they tagged him. They will have lost Kolb by then and will have no QB. LMAO @ Philly.

20 million bucks is chicken feed base on what they paid Brady for a long term contract.  The Eagles might want to be careful, others teams are looking for a QB with Vick's abilities.   The bottom line, they need to pay Vick the bucks and lock him up for at least five years.
