Roethlisberger partying during Super Bowl week?

The comments on this article should range nicely from "STEELER SUX" to "STOP WASTING MY TIME, LOSER," but it warrants mentioning, I think, that Ben Roethlisberger was reportedly out getting a little loose at Pete's Dueling Piano Bar in Fort Worth where the Steelers are staying this week.

Yes, that report does come via TMZ.com, and, no Ben doesn't do anything stupid. Unless you count choosing Billy Joel's "Piano Man" as his selection during the karaoke session he and "two massive teammates" held from 11:00 PM until 1:15 AM.

People inside the bar told TMZ that Ben was "nice, fun and took care of everyone" -- reportedly he bought several rounds for the entire bar. (And presumably, that was so some jerk wouldn't sell video of him singing to TMZ for $5,000.)

Look, this video, which you have to assume is going to make the rounds Thursday, is really only a big deal because of circumstance.

Ben got in trouble for some pretty nasty allegations that occurred while he was partying too hard in some random, podunk town in Georgia. Ergo, when people Ben's supposed to be in Dallas and focused and renewed and changed and all that stuff.

That doesn't mean that Ben has to go to church every night or go rescue orphans in between Super Bowl practices. Expecting that out of him would be a bit much.

And it's also pretty fine for the guy to cut loose a little bit by enjoying a reasonably quiet evening on the town. But given all that's happened over the last year, it's surprising to see him even risk the potential of public discussion about his behavior in the week leading up to the Super Bowl.

Because regardless of the thought process behind his behavior and whether or not belting out Billy Joel tunes at 1:00 AM in a Piano Bar in a day and age when everyone has a camera phone actually affects his on-field performance, if the Steelers end up losing, people will want to know why he wasn't spending the week getting more prepared.

Roethlisberger partying during Super Bowl week?

Actually, I would consider this GOOD for his image.

Remember, he got in hot water partying it up at a college bar with underage girls all around.  Now he's hanging out at a piano bar on karaoke night at 11:00?  That's like the difference between frat-boy-behavior and middle-aged-accountant-cutting-loos

e-after-a-60-hour-week behavior.  Seriously... my mom could go to karaoke night at a piano bar and not look out of place... as long as he didn't drive home drunk, there's nothing at all untoward about his behavior here.

Let us keep in mind that the guy has been to (and won) the Super Bowl before... he knows the prep required, and he knows the importance of staying loose.  And he's doing it in a remarkably restrained, mature, and (to be honest) even mildly dorky way.  I wouldn't be at all bothered by this if I were a coach, fan, or teammate.

Goodell will likely suspend him for 8 games next season for singing a bill joel song...The Packers really should just pay off some good looking girl (although Ben does like the gross trolls) to yell rape to get him suspended from super bowl 45 since you dont have to be found guilty, let alone even charged with a crime, to be suspended by Goodell.

Looks like Steelers will win SB for sure now. They are loose and knows what needs to be done Sunday. Packers will be tight from going to bible study and their rooms after practice. None of them must be going to bars since they don't show up on CBS.

Roethlisberger partying during Super Bowl week?

Common man. And from an Eagles fan of all people. The fans that berate other team's fans so frequently and forcefully that the stadium flashes a number on the big screen to send a text if you are being verbally or physically harrassed in the stands. Oh yeah, and a QB who was found guilty of torturing and killing canines.

"A$$HOLE, A$$HOLE, A$$HOLE, A$$HOLE!" Sound familiar? Haven't been to an Eagles game yet where that ridiculous chant wasn't heard 15 times on the walk to the stadium.

One more year, one more playoff elimination. Karma is a b*tch.

Roethlisberger partying during Super Bowl week?

Why is this a story?  And why is it worthy of a front-page headline on CBS sports?
