Well, at least Albert Haynesworth finally showed some fire and intensity. Too bad it was off the field and against the law.

Tom Jackman of the Washington Post reports that the Redskins defensivA. Haynesworth (US Presswire)e tackle has been charged with simple assault for a road rage incident with another motorist on the Fairfax County Parkway. Haynesworth has not been arrested but plans on turning himself in next week.

Jackman provides the details of the alleged incident:

The episode occurred Wednesday morning, and involved a 38-year-old man driving a 1994 Honda Civic and another driver, allegedly Haynesworth, both driving south on the Fairfax County Parkway, Broderick said. The driver of the Civic reportedly felt that a pickup truck following behind him was tailgating, and issued a "non-verbal hand gesture" to the pickup driver, Broderick said.

About 9:16 a.m., at the intersection with New Dominion Parkway, near the entrance to Reston Hospital Center, the two vehicles came to a stoplight. Broderick said the driver of the pickup truck emerged from his vehicle, had a brief exchange of words, and then struck the Civic driver.

She declined to be more specific about the circumstances of the assault.

A simple assault is a class 1 misdemeanor and carries a fine of $2,500. A maximum jail sentence is 12 months, but not a soul out there believes Haynesworth will ever face any time behind bars.

UPDATE 12:30 p.m. EST: Haynesworth's agent, Chad Speck, has issued a statement (via Pro Football Talk):

“Albert has yet to speak to the authorities at all on this matter,” Speck said.  “So only one side of the story has been told at this point in time.  If contacted by the authorities, Albert will certainly cooperate in any way.  This man, who actually provoked the situation himself, recognized Albert and is now simply trying to turn it into his 15 minutes of fame and get, we can only assume, some money.

“Albert did not assault this man and looks forward to his day in court to refute these ridiculous allegations.”

I really hope the Lions have stopped pursuing him through trade.  Otherwise we'll have to guard our kids, hide or wife.
Detroit what?

The new CBA should void contracts of players found guilty of any crime.  See what that does to their market value.  We have the worst drivers in the world in metro- D; I really hope the Lions have stopped pursuing him through trade.  Otherwise we'll have to guard our kids, hide or wife.

this dude obviously needs court ordered anger management. and maybe a suspension too. it is systemic for him. remember the unprotected face-stomping incident in Tennessee that everyone conveniently forgot about when he later had a career (contract) year and became the $100million man? how's that working out? bet they wish they put more stock in his lack of self-control.
