Pouncey officially out for Sunday

Steelers coach Mike Tomlin has told ESPN’s Suzy Kolber, via Adam Schefter, that rookie C Maurkice Pouncey did not practice today and will not play in Sunday’s Super Bowl.

This, of course, is not surprising, though Pouncey had been saying that he was 75 percent probable to play.

Kudos to him for continuing to believe that notion – if he did, in fact, believe it – even when it seemed clear that it was nearly going to be impossible for him to perform.

That means backup Doug Legursky will take over the center role and will be the man in charge of slowing down Green Bay’s B.J. Raji.

Pouncey officially out for Sunday

What I would dread to think is that Green Bay wins big and then everyone waxes poetic that "it would've been different" had he played.  In other words, nobody wins in this situation. Pretty unfortunate.

This has already been covered by "injuries are a part of the game"
If (when) the Packers win, all doubters can say whatever they want, the deep down, the Steelers knew that The Pounce would likely be out, so they had 2 weeks to get to prep for this very situation.
Yes, things may have been, if teams don't lose a guy earlier in the season, maybe they don't have to change the way they do things, and maybe they are not even one of the teams playing in SBXLV.
My point is, "things change", get it??
So yes someone will win, is it unfortunate, no, it's reality......deal with it!
There will be no excuses from the losing team (Steelers), they won't be pouting & saying "if we'd only had Pouncey, we would have won".
The Steelers will Man up if they get beat.

Pouncey officially out for Sunday

I'm a Packers fan and I still wish this hadn't happened.  Best case scenario is that both teams are at full strength and the winner is indeed declared the best.  However injuries are part of the game and lord knows GB has had its share.  What I would dread to think is that Green Bay wins big and then everyone waxes poetic that "it would've been different" had he played.  In other words, nobody wins in this situation. Pretty unfortunate.

Pouncey officially out for Sunday

The reality though is that most of the time, the guys get nicked up but come back in after a few plays, or at least the next week. Willie Colon was an achilles, which is unusual, Starks a neck injury, which is unpredictable, and Pouncey got rolled up on - nothing to be done about it. I think though that o-line coach Kugler has done a great job coaching these guys up and getting the most out of them. They'll be fine on Sunday.

Pouncey officially out for Sunday

Not a surprise...but certainly a disappointment I'm sure for Maurkice and the Steelers offense since he played such a key role in the their success this season.  Doug Legursky will do fine.  He has a lot of playing time under his belt this season due to the injuries to the O-line, and 2 full weeks to prepare for Sunday.

The standard is the standard.  No excuses.  He will be ready...as will the Steelers!

Steelers need a new trainer

I wish there was a prop bet on the number of Steelers offensive lineman to get injured Sunday.  In every single game I've watched at least two have gotten hurt a game.  Granted sometimes it was only cramps, such as that 100 degree game in Tennessee, but still, those lineman are made of glass.
